The Cork County Hurling Championships commence this weekend, with all eight Senior first round games and a number of games in other grades taking place.

The Cups

Seán Óg Murphy Cup - Senior Hurling Championship
A native of Cork city, Sean Og Murphy (1897-1956) played hurling for Blackrock and football for Nils. He won three All-Ireland medals with Cork and served as secretary of Cork County Board from 1929 until his death in 1956.

 
 
Seamus Long Cup - Premier Intermediate Hurling
A Founder member of the Ballinora GAA club , Seamus Long and his family were steeped in the GAA and have been credited with the setting up of Divisional Boards. He was Principal of Ballinora school from 1913 to 1951 and elected secretary of Ballincollig club in 1914. He was the first secretary of the Muskerry Board in 1924, the founding Chairman of the Ballinora club in the same year , was Vice-Chairman of Cork County Board from from 1940 to 1946 and was Munster Cuncil Delegate from 1949  until his death in 1953.
 
 
Paddy Walsh Cup - Intermediate Hurling Championship
Paddy Walsh was a native of Castlemartyr in East Cork and gave great service to the GAA over many years until his death in 2001. The GAA grounds in Castlemartyr are named in his honour.
