St. Finbarr's clubman and 2014 Cork Senior Football captain, Michael Shields iis a student and made his senior debut in the 2006 Munster Final against Kerry. He has the distinction of captaining Cork to win back-to-back Allianz League titles in 2010 and 2011. He believes that the most important skill in football is to be able to kick off both feet, and there is nothing he would change about the game - if anything, he thinks we need to reinforce/re-define the rules rather than changing them. Michael also enjoys soccer, and as a child wanted to be a Manchester United player. His best football memory outside of playing is the 1999 Cork v Kerry Munster Final. As a player, the highlight has been winning the Corn Uí Mhuirí with Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh in 2003.If there was a transfer market, he would buy Noel O Leary, and the person he would most like to meet is Floyd Mayweather. In ten years' time, he hopes to be fit, healthy and happy!
