Further to last night’s County Committee meeting, Club Season Tickets for the 2021 season are now available to purchase.
Tickets are priced €150.
If you wish to purchase one ahead of this weekend’s games, please email administrator.cork@gaa.ie with contact details and the office will call you to take payment over the phone.
Then, a non-transferable barcode will follow by email which will allow access to all County Championship games.

Cork GAA Statement

The Cork GAA Executive has today confirmed that Ronan McCarthy has stepped down as Cork Senior Football manager following recent discussions with board officers.

All in Cork GAA wish to thank Ronan sincerely for his decades of service to GAA at all levels in the county, as player, coach and manager.

In more recent times, this has included a four-year term as Cork Senior Football manager, having previously served as selector and coach for a total of three years.

County Chairperson Marc Sheehan said “Ronan has been an outstanding servant to Cork GAA over many years, and I would like to thank him both personally and on behalf of Cork for all that he has done. We wish Ronan, his selectors and backroom team all the best in their future endeavours and thank all involved for an immeasurable contribution over a number of years.”

A process will now be put in place for the appointment of a new manager.

Bon Secours Football Championships

This weekend sees the beginning of 2021 Bon Secours , Premier Senior, Senior A, Premier Intermediate, and Intermediate A Football Championships. The group of 4 format which proved to be of great success in 2020 will be again in use as 52 teams set out in the pursuit across 4 different grades . 

Once again this year, Bon Secours will sponsor the Football Championships and speaking at the launch, General Manager of Bon Secours Hospital Cork said

“We in Bon Secours are absolutely delighted to be involved with Cork GAA, and organisation like the Bons, that has a very proud history in Cork and is deeply rooted in the community and we are very proud to be involved as sponsor of the Cork Football Championships”   

Speaking at the launch, on behalf of Cork GAA Chairman Marc Sheehan said “We are delighted to have such generous sponsorship coming into year 2 of the agreement and we have developed a great relationship with the Bon Secours Hospital and they are really becoming associated with our Football Championships.”

Cork County Senior and Intermediate Championships 2021

 

Following a comprehensive review process throughout 2018 and 2019, the Championship formats outlined below were approved at County Committee for a period of two years, 2020 and 2021. In 2021, this format will be implemented as outlined below, with a number of additional amendments which proved successful in 2020 and will be retained. Teams that are relegated in championships shall retain their league status as both competitions are now decoupled. Teams relegated to Junior A will retain their position in the County leagues. Plans to organise Junior regional leagues in partnership with the divisions have been postponed until 2022

  • 104 Club teams in total in the County Senior & Intermediate Championships by 2023
  • Four Grades in both Football and Hurling
    • Premier Senior -12 Club Teams
    • Senior A – 12 teams
    • Premier Intermediate – 12 teams
    • Intermediate A – 16 teams
  • Transition period across 2020 -2023 will see 16 teams remain in IAFC. LIHC will be abolished at end 2022 with IAHC then incorporating 16 teams. Format for selection of 4 extra teams in IAHC TBC.

  • Seedings are based on final positions after the group stages in previous year, with promotion and relegation taking precedence.

    • Placing within groups for qualification / relegation are in line with general rule, as follows:
    • if two teams are tied, it will be based on the head-to-head result.
    • if three or more teams are tied, it will be based on scoring difference.

  • Qualification two teams from each group qualify for the semi-finals / quarter-finals as outlined in each grade below.

  • Draw Format & Procedure In all competitions with 12 teams (3 groups of 4), draws will take place as follows: There will be 3 Groups to be filled (labelled 1 to 3). There will be 3 top seeds, 3 second seeds, 3 third seeds and 3 fourth seeds. Firstly, the three top seeds will be placed in the bowl. Each will be drawn and placed in Groups A to C in order. Then, the three second seeds will be placed in the bowl. Each will be drawn and placed in Groups 1 to 3 in order. Then, the three C seeds will be placed in the bowl Each will be drawn and placed in Groups 1 to 3 in order. To conclude, the three D seeds will be placed in the bowl. Each will be drawn and placed in Groups 1 to 3 in order. *Exception For IAFC where there are 16 teams there will instead be four top seeds placed in the bowl. They will be drawn and placed in Groups 1 to 4 in order and so on.

At the end of 2022, the Lower Intermediate Hurling grade will be abolished and the Intermediate A Hurling Championship will be increased to 16 teams.
