Cork U20 Hurling Managerial Appointment

Cork GAA Statement 05/09/22

Cork County GAA Executive will propose the appointment of Ben O’Connor, (Newtownshandrum), as Cork U20 Hurling manager, for ratification at next week’s County Committee meeting for September.

A two-year term will be proposed, with the following selectors in place: Ger O’Regan (St. Finbarr’s), Ronan Curran (St. Finbarr’s), Terence McCarthy (Midleton) and Anthony Nash (Kanturk).

A winner of three All Ireland Senior Hurling medals, Ben also won four County titles and an All Ireland Senior Club title with Newtownshandrum as a player.

In recent years, he coached Charleville and Midleton to Premier Intermediate and Premier Senior County titles, respectively.

In welcoming the appointment, Cork GAA Chairman, Marc Sheehan said, “We are delighted that Ben has come on board to oversee such an important age group. No doubt, the development of our players is in safe hands.

Bon Secours Premier Senior Football Championship Knockout Stage

 

The knockout stage for the Bon Secours Premier Senior Football Championship has been set following the results from this afternoons matches.

 

Quarter Finals:

Nemo Rangers v Carbery Rangers

Mallow v Castlehaven

Ballincollig v Carbery

 

Semi Finals:

St Finbarr’s v Mallow or Castlehaven

Nemo Rangers or Carbery Rangers v Ballincollig or Carbery

 

Relegation Playoff:

Éire Óg v Newcestown

Bon Secours Premier Intermediate Football Championship Knockout Stage

The knockout stage for the Bon Secours Premier Intermediate Football Championship has been set following the results from the lunch time matches today.

 

Quarter Finals:

Uibh Laoire v Rockchapel

Cill Na Martra v Aghada

 

Semi Finals:

Bantry Blues v Uibh Laoire or Rockchapel

Kanturk v Cill Na Martra or Aghada

 

Relegation Playoff:

St Vincents v Naomh Ában

Bon Secours Premier Intermediate Football Championship

Teams will battle it out on Sunday 4th September to book their places in the next round of the Premier Intermediate Football Championship.

All games will commence at 2pm.

As per competition regulations below is the compeition structure for the knock out phase. 

Qualification 

Two teams will progress from each group of four to the play-off stages. This will result in six teams qualifying, with the two top group winners qualifying for the semi-finals and the remaining group winner and the three second-placed teams qualifying for the quarter-finals.  

 

Teams (1-6) will be ranked as follows, on completion of the group stages: 

  1. Top Group winner 
  2. Second Group winner 
  3. Third Group winner 
  4. Top Group runner-up 
  5. Second Group runner-up 
  6. Third Group runner up 

Quarter-finals: (a) 3v6, (b) 4v5

Semi-finals: 1 v (b), 2 v (a) 

 

A repeat pairing is possible in the quarter finals in (a) 3v6 above. If this arises 3 will instead play 5 and 4 will play 6. Repeat pairings in semi-finals will be avoided, with pairings being adjusted where necessary. 

 

Relegation

The relegation final will be a straight play-off between the two lowest ranked teams (in terms of points won and scoring difference) amongst the three teams that finish bottom of their respective groups.
