Community Rallies for ‘True Warrior’ Féile O’Sullivan After Life-Changing Accident

A wave of generosity and solidarity is sweeping across West Cork and beyond as communities unite under the banner “Stand for Féile” to support 13-year-old Féile O’Sullivan on her road to recovery.

Féile, a vibrant and sports-mad teenager from Allihies on the Beara Peninsula, suffered a devastating farm accident in early July, just days before her birthday. Airlifted to Cork University Hospital with severe lower-abdomen injuries, she underwent emergency surgery which resulted in the amputation of both legs in order to save her life.

Following intensive treatment in Cork, Féile was transferred to Dublin, where she continues to receive specialised care and rehabilitation. Her resilience has been described by friends and neighbours as nothing short of inspirational.

A Groundswell of Support

In response to the tragedy, local organisations including Garnish GAA, Beara LGFA, Beara Utd, Allihies Hall, Lehanmore Community Centre, and the Allihies Men’s Shed joined forces to launch the Stand for Féile fundraising campaign.

What began as a goal to raise €250,000 for Féile’s medical care, home adaptations, and prosthetics quickly surpassed expectations. As of this week, more than €421,000 has been donated by over 6,500 people from Ireland and abroad.

The campaign has captured the attention of the wider GAA community, with inter-county stars including Cork’s Seán O’Donoghue, Patrick Horgan, Rob Downey and Alan Connolly all sending messages of support.

A Long Road Ahead

Féile has already endured multiple surgeries—reportedly over two dozen since the accident—and faces months of rehabilitation. Funds raised will go towards specialist medical equipment, prosthetic limbs, extensive physiotherapy, and adapting her home to meet her future needs.

Her mother, Maureen O’Sullivan, expressed her gratitude to all who have rallied to their side, sharing an emotional poem thanking the public:

“You came like sunlight through a heavy haze…
You stood with us right by Féile’s side.”

How to Help

The Stand for Féile campaign remains active, with further fundraising events planned across West Cork in the coming weeks. Supporters can contribute in several ways:

  • Donate directly via the GoFundMe page

  • Share Féile’s story on social media to keep awareness high

  • Take part in local fundraising events organised by community groups

An Outpouring of Kindness

From tractor runs and coffee mornings to raffles and sports events, the spirit of Beara has shone brightly in Féile’s time of need. Organisers say the campaign is about more than just financial help—it is a show of love, solidarity, and hope for a girl whose bravery continues to inspire everyone who hears her story.
