Goals, drama, and draws light up a thrilling weekend of Cork club football
Championship football delivered in style on Super Saturday, with spectacular scorelines and gripping contests right across the county.
In the Senior Football Championship, Castlehaven underlined their title credentials with a dominant 2-22 to 1-12 win over Valley Rovers, their forwards in flying form from start to finish.
The Senior ‘A’ Championship produced nail-biting drama as Newmarket edged Éire Óg 1-18 to 0-19 in a tight, high-scoring clash. Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh’s clinical goal scoring proved decisive as they beat Dohenys 2-14 to 1-14.
There was no shortage of fireworks in the Premier Intermediate Championship. Aghada stunned Bantry Blues with six goals in a remarkable 6-8 to 1-17 victory, while Aghabullogue’s two-goal burst saw them past Nemo Rangers 2-9 to 0-12. Elsewhere, Rockchapel and Bandon shared the spoils (1-12 a piece), and Macroom and Kiskeam could not be separated either (0-15 each).
In the Intermediate ‘A’ Championship, Adrigole proved too strong for St Finbarr’s 2-13 to 1-8, while Kildorrery vs Gabriel Rangers (1-15 each) and Ilen Rovers vs Kilmurry (1-14 apiece) ended all square after thrilling finishes.
The Premier Junior Championship provided more headlines. Urhan held off Ballydesmond 1-18 to 2-12, while Inniscarra ran riot in a 4-18 to 0-8 rout of Glenville. Kinsale’s accurate shooting saw them past Cullen 0-19 to 1-12, and Buttevant posted a jaw-dropping 4-27 to 2-5 win over Millstreet, the biggest scoreline of the day.
With goals flying in across every grade, Super Saturday more than lived up to its name – and the stage is set for an even more exciting championship run-in.
