Championship Weekend Story

It’s a bumper weekend of championship action across Cork, with County Quarter-Finals taking centre stage and crucial relegation ties also on the line.

The action begins on Friday night in Ballyhooly, where at 7:45pm Erins Own and Newtownshandrum meet once again in a Co-Op Superstores Premier SHC relegation play-off replay.

On Saturday, the spotlight turns to football. At 5:00pm in Enniskeane, Carbery Rangers and Valley Rovers clash in a Senior Football relegation showdown, while at the very same time in Kilbrin, Knocknagree meet Kanturk in the Senior ‘A’ Championship. Also at 5:00pm, Páirc Uí Rinn stages another huge relegation battle as Fermoy face O’Donovan Rossa.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Premier Intermediate Football Championship throws in with Aghabullogue against Kiskeam in Banteer at 4:15pm, followed by Glanmire meeting Aghada in Lisgoold at 5:00pm.

The Intermediate ‘A’ Football Championship also brings big drama, with Dromtarriffe and St Vincents squaring off in Macroom at 4:00pm in a relegation clash. Just half an hour later, Ilen Rovers and Mitchelstown meet in Newcestown at 4:30pm, before Gabriel Rangers and Ballinora line out in Rossmore at 5:30pm.

In the Premier Junior Football Championship, Millstreet and Ballydesmond face each other in Boherbue at 2:00pm in a relegation battle, before Cullen take on Canovee in Donoughmore at 4:00pm. At the very same time, Inniscarra and Cobh meet in Grenagh.

Sunday’s action is just as packed. At 2:00pm in Páirc Uí Rinn, Newcestown meet Carrigaline in the Senior Football Championship, while an hour later in Clonakilty, St Finbarrs face Castlehaven in what promises to be one of the ties of the round. Back in Páirc Uí Rinn at 4:00pm, Ballincollig meet Duhallow in another heavyweight clash.

In the Senior ‘A’ Championship, Éire Óg take on Bishopstown in Ballyanley at 3:00pm, while in the Premier Intermediate Championship, Bandon and Macroom collide in Kilmurry at 2:00pm.

It promises to be a thrilling weekend of football and hurling with plenty at stake — survival for some, and progression for others.
