Buttevant Claim Premier JFC Title

Buttevant 1-15 (1-4-7) | St Nick’s 0-10 (0-0-10)
Buttevant secured the McCarthy Insurance Group Premier JFC title with an eight-point win over St Nick’s on Saturday at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh. The victory marks the North Cork club’s first adult county football success in 99 years.
First Half Dominance
Buttevant utilised the wind advantage effectively in the opening half, building a commanding 1-10 to 0-6 lead by the interval. The North Cork side established control early with points from David Hanlon and Mark Lenahan, quickly followed by two successive two-point scores from centre-forward Conor Hanlon.
The crucial score of the half arrived in the 12th minute when Michael O’Neill brilliantly fetched a ball from Mark Lenahan into the square and slotted it into the net, establishing a 1-6 to 0-0 lead.
St Nick’s responded by registering their first scores through a combination of efforts from play and a free from Jack O’Sullivan, along with points from Danny Morris and Dave Dunlea, reducing the margin to five points. However, Buttevant’s efficiency with two-point scores saw them maintain their buffer, reaching 1-10 to 0-4 before late points from O’Sullivan (free) and substitute Dean Brosnan narrowed the gap to six at the break.
Despite St Nick’s having the wind in the second half, Buttevant maintained distance. A Danny Morris point for the city side was immediately cancelled out by a Conor Hanlon free. Hanlon added two more quick scores (one from a free and one from play) to extend Buttevant’s lead to 1-13 to 0-7 after 39 minutes.
St Nick’s continued to contest the tie, with Brosnan and O’Sullivan (free) keeping their side within touch heading into the final quarter. However, the eight-point gap proved insurmountable as the sides traded late white flags. A final free from Conor Hanlon copper-fastened Buttevant’s advantage.
