Historic First: Kilbrittain Crowned AIB Munster Club JHC Champions!
Kilbrittain 2-17 | Kilrossanty 0-9
Kilbrittain secured a landmark moment in the club’s history on Saturday afternoon at Mallow, defeating Waterford’s Kilrossanty to claim their first-ever AIB Munster Club Junior Hurling Championship title. The victory is also a major milestone for West Cork, as Joe Ryan’s side becomes the first club from the Carbery division to win a provincial hurling crown.
The Cork champions displayed confidence and class throughout the encounter. Playing with the wind in the first half, Kilbrittain’s defence was resolute, restricting Kilrossanty to just three points—all frees from Pádraig Fitzgerald—while building a healthy 0-11 to 0-3 lead.
Although Kilrossanty briefly rallied at the start of the second half, cutting the deficit to five, Kilbrittain quickly regained control. The turning point came in the 40th minute when Mark Hickey billowed the back of the net after a superb team move, followed by a second goal from Bertie Butler ten minutes later. These goals sealed the match and extinguished Kilrossanty’s challenge.
Hickey was the top scorer with an impressive 1-9 (0-9 frees), while Butler added 1-3. The comprehensive 2-17 to 0-9 victory was fully deserved, sparking major celebrations as Kilbrittain collected the cup. They now advance to the All-Ireland Semi-Final against the Leinster winners.
