The road to county final day becomes a little shorter next weekend as 10 McCarthy Insurance Group club championship fixtures take place across Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with nine semi-finals and a crucial relegation play-off all carrying significant consequences.

For the teams involved, there is now little room for error. A place in a county final is within touching distance, while for Kildorrery and Glanworth, survival in the Intermediate A Football Championship is the prize on offer.

The weekend gets underway on Friday, October 9, with two semi-finals throwing-in simultaneously at 7.30pm.

In the Premier Junior Football Championship, Canovee and Inniscarra meet in Macroom, while Kilmurry and Boherbue go head-to-head in Mourneabbey in the Intermediate A Football Championship.

Both games offer the winners a place in their respective county finals and set the tone for a weekend where every result will have a major bearing on the destination of silverware.

Super Saturday

Saturday brings seven fixtures across the county, including a double-header at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh that will take centre stage.

The afternoon begins with three football championship semi-finals and a relegation play-off.

Adrigole and Buttevant meet in Kilmichael in the Intermediate A Football Championship, while Éire Óg face Cill na Martra in the Senior A Football Championship in Coachford.

At 3pm in Carrigtwohill, Cobh and St. Nick’s will contest the second Premier Junior Football Championship semi-final, while Kildorrery and Glanworth meet in Shanballymore with their Intermediate A Football Championship status on the line.

The spotlight then turns to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

At 5.15pm, Carrigaline and Nemo Rangers meet in the first Premier Senior Football Championship semi-final, with both clubs looking to take the next step towards county final glory.

That will be followed at 7pm by another heavyweight contest as Clonakilty and St. Finbarr’s meet in the second Premier Senior Football Championship semi-final.

Two games, one venue and two county final places at stake will make for a major evening of championship football at Cork GAA headquarters.

Three more semi-finals on Sunday

Sunday brings the championship action to Macroom, Mallow and beyond, with three further semi-finals on the schedule.

At 2pm in Macroom, Uibh Laoire and Naomh Abán meet in the Premier Intermediate Football Championship.

An hour later, Kiskeam and Fermoy go head-to-head in Mallow in the other Premier Intermediate Football Championship semi-final.

The weekend’s final game is another Senior A Football Championship semi-final, with Carbery Rangers facing Kanturk at 4pm in Macroom.

That fixture is currently scheduled for October 11, but will move to October 25 if Kanturk reach the Premier Senior Hurling Championship final.

County final places in sight

By Sunday evening, a host of clubs will have secured their place in county finals, while others will be left to reflect on campaigns that have come to an end.

For those still standing, however, the finish line will be getting closer.

Across three days and 11 fixtures, clubs will be chasing county final places, championship survival and the opportunity to keep their season alive.
