Munster Club Round-Up with both Glen and Ballincollig bowing out
It was a disappointing afternoon for Cork’s champions in Munster, as both Glen Rovers and Ballincollig bowed out at the quarter-final stage.
Glen Rovers lost 1-21 to 1-14 to Clare champions Inagh-Kilnamona at Páirc Uí Rinn. In Clonmel, Tipperary’s St Mary’s beat Ballincollig 1-16 to 0-15 in the intermediate quarter-final.

Inagh-Kilnamona were 0-7 to 0-1 ahead after 12 minutes, with Aidan McCarthy doing most of the damage from frees. David Fitzgerald’s goal on 26 minutes pushed the lead out to ten points. Patrick Horgan gave the Glen a lifeline in first-half added time, firing a close-range free to the net.
Two more Horgan frees soon after the restart cut the gap to five. Eoin O’Leary’s point brought it back to four, 1-17 to 1-13, at the 50-minute mark, but each time the Glen closed in, Inagh-Kilnamona had an answer. Horgan went for a second goal from a free late on, but it was saved.
McCarthy finished with 0-14. Horgan was the Glen’s top scorer with 1-8.

Ballincollig’s historic season came to an end in Clonmel, where the Tipperary champions made home advantage count in front of a big crowd.
It was close early on. Danny Miskella opened the scoring for Ballincollig, Darragh O’Mahony put them back in front, and Cian O’Driscoll’s brace left it level at 0-4 each after 15 minutes. Theo Morgan levelled again, but St Mary’s finished the half strongly, with Tipperary panellist Peter McGarry leading the way, and led by four at the break.
Miskella cut the gap to three early in the second half. St Mary’s then pulled away: substitute Thomas Charles pointed with his first touch and set up Tadhg Condon for the game’s only goal around the 45th minute. The lead stretched to ten.
Ballincollig kept going. Brian Keating came off the bench to point, and Tadhg O’Connell, James Dwyer, Steven Wills and Ross O’Donovan all added scores as the gap closed, but the St Mary’s defence held firm and the goal they needed never came.
Season in review
Both clubs have plenty to look back on. Glen Rovers won their 28th Cork senior title, and their first in ten years, just two weeks ago. Ballincollig won the club’s first ever Premier Intermediate crown and will play Senior A hurling in 2027.
