Cork GAA Sustainability Committee Celebrates Outstanding Response to Clean-Up Day

 

Almost 100 clubs from across the county took part in the recent Cork GAA Clean-Up Day, an initiative organised by the Cork GAA Sustainability Committee to promote environmental awareness, community pride, and collective action across clubs and communities.

The event saw clubs across all levels come together to carry out local clean-ups in their areas, with exceptional engagement recorded throughout the county. To further encourage participation, a competition was introduced to recognise the clubs that demonstrated the greatest level of involvement and impact on the day.

Following careful review by the organising committee, the winners were selected across three grades:

  • Junior Winner: St. Oliver Plunkett’s
  • Intermediate Winner: Russell Rovers
  • Senior Winner: Sarsfields

 

Each of the winning clubs was recognised for their outstanding effort, coordination, and commitment to their local environment. As part of their prize, the three clubs received a signed inter-county hurling and football jersey, acknowledging their contribution to both sustainability and the wider Cork GAA community.

Our County Board Sustainability Officer, Enda Buckley, said:

“Clean-Up Day is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when our clubs come together with a shared sense of purpose. The response from all 90 clubs was outstanding, and it shows the pride our members take not only in their own club grounds, but in their local communities. Congratulations to all who took part, and especially to our winners, whose effort and leadership on the day really stood out.”

The Cork GAA Sustainability Committee praised all participating clubs for their involvement, noting that the scale of engagement reflects the strong sense of community responsibility that exists within the GAA network across the county.

Initiatives such as Cork GAA Clean-Up Day continue to play an important role in promoting sustainability, while also strengthening the connection between clubs, players, and their local areas.

SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh will host a key clash on Thursday evening as Cork take on Kerry in Round 2 of Phase 2 of the Dalata Hotel Group Munster U20 Football Championship.

Cork come into the game following a hard-fought draw with Clare in their opening fixture, while Kerry will be full of confidence after an emphatic win over Waterford.

Throw-in is at 7pm, with gates opening at 6pm. The South Stand Lower and Premium Level will be open for supporters.

Tickets are on sale now, and U16s can attend free of charge when accompanied by an adult.

Cork U20s win in Dungarvan with a three point win over Waterford

Cork produced a superb second-half comeback to defeat Waterford in their Munster U20 Hurling Championship clash at Fraher Field. Trailing late on after falling three points behind, Cork showed real resilience and composure to turn the game around.

James O’Brien was central to the victory, finishing with ten points, while captain Barry O’Flynn led by example with a brilliant sideline score at a crucial stage. Key contributions from Finn O’Brien and Conor Noonan pushed Cork into the lead entering the closing minutes.

Defensively, Cork stood strong under pressure, with Darragh Heavin delivering an outstanding performance, including a vital late block. Substitutes also made a major impact, particularly Craig O’Sullivan and Jack Counihan, whose energy helped swing momentum.

Cork closed out the game with confidence, adding late scores to secure a hard-earned win. The result sends them top of the table on scoring difference and keeps their Munster campaign firmly on track.
