Teddy McCarthy
Teddy McCarthy, etched his name in Cork GAA history as a dual player par excellence. Over an illustrious eleven-year career, McCarthy’s legacy extends beyond his eleven-year senior inter-county playing career, making him the only male dual player to clinch All-Ireland senior hurling and football medals in a single year.
McCarthy’s journey began in 1985 with the Cork senior football team, earning two All-Ireland football medals and six Munster medals. Simultaneously, his prowess in hurling brought two All-Ireland hurling medals, three Munster medals, and a National Hurling League title during his decade with the senior hurlers. McCarthy’s legacy extends beyond the field; he seamlessly transitioned into coaching and management, leaving an indelible mark on Sarsfields, Bandon, and as a selector for Cork.
Born in Glanmire, McCarthy’s impact reached beyond county borders. His son, Cian McCarthy, continued the family tradition, showcasing the enduring legacy of a true Cork GAA legend. As we celebrate Teddy McCarthy’s contributions, join us at the Teddy McCarthy Tribute Games on December 9th, 2023, to honor his enduring legacy.
