SUPERVALU PÁIRC UÍ CHAOIMH GEARS UP FOR EXCITING OCTOBER

October set to host wide variety of matches at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh

GAA games return to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh this weekend with the Coop SuperStores Cork Senior A Hurling semi-finals on Saturday, October 3 being followed by the Coop SuperStores Cork Premier Hurling semi-finals on Sunday, October 4. Indeed, ten semi-finals take place at venues across the county over the weekend of October 2–4, intensifying the race toward the County Championship finals later in the month.

Following a packed calendar of events to date in 2026, October continues the trend at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh with several major matches also scheduled across an already busy month at headquarters.

Irish Women’s Head Coach, Carla Ward, brings her young and promising side to the home of Cork GAA on October 13, as the Girls in Green play the second leg of their FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifying match against Kazakhstan. A large attendance is expected at the stadium where Ireland has already achieved notable success against opponents such as the Netherlands and France.

This will be followed four days later on October 17 when Munster Rugby take on French giants Racing 92 for only its second match on Leeside in the Investec Champions Cup. The Top 14 side has had a tough start to its domestic campaign and Munster will be hoping its previous form at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh continues with a winning start to its European campaign.

Coop SuperStores Cork County Hurling and McCarthy Insurance Group Football finals then take pride of place at the stadium in quick succession on Sunday October 18 (Premier Senior and Premier Intermediate Hurling double-header) and October 25 (Premier Senior and Premier Junior Football double-header). A total of ten County Finals across both Hurling and Football will take place at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh over the next month. Tickets will go on sale for finals following the completion of upcoming semi-finals.

Between these games, the Shinty camogie and hurling international matches between Ireland and Scotland will be played at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh as the Celtic rivals bring one of the calendar’s most unique matches to Cork on October 24. Irish selectors are currently putting together both squads from across the counties to face the Scots in a double-header that will unite two rich histories and sporting cultures from either side of the Irish Sea.

Kevin O’Donovan, CEO at Cork GAA, said: “Cork’s sporting public has a feast in store during October at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh as we welcome some top-class sides across a number of sports for what will be a treat for fans and also a huge financial boon to the wider city over a number of weekends.”

Detailed traffic management plans will be in place for all games, with patrons asked to be respectful of neighbouring communities. Those travelling by car are asked to use available car parks before walking to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Kevin O’Donovan added, “As always, we very much appreciate the goodwill and cooperation of our neighbouring residents and businesses and we ask everyone coming to the matches to be respectful of their homes and properties”.

Blackrock and Midleton to Meet Again After Dramatic Final Draw

Blackrock and Midleton will meet again to decide the destination of the Cork ETB Rebel Óg U18 Premier 1 Hurling Championship title after an absorbing final at Páirc Uí Rinn finished level.

Midleton 2-17
Blackrock 1-20

The Rockies produced a superb second-half recovery after Midleton had established a five-point advantage as half-time approached. Blackrock’s response brought the sides level before Shane O’Mahony struck for Midleton to put the Magpies back in front.

From there, the lead changed hands several times, with Michael Quill proving decisive for Blackrock. The Blackrock forward kept finding the scores required to bring his side level, including a late equaliser after Senan Carroll had restored Midleton’s advantage.

With neither side able to find a winning score, the final whistle confirmed that a replay will be required.

Blackrock’s defence also played its part in the closing stages, with Jack Browne and Patrick McCarthy making important interventions to ensure Midleton could not find a late winner.

Quill finished with nine points for Blackrock, while Shane O’Mahony contributed 1-2 for Midleton as both sides produced an exciting final that will now have to be settled at a second attempt.

The road to county final day becomes a little shorter next weekend as 10 McCarthy Insurance Group club championship fixtures take place across Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with nine semi-finals and a crucial relegation play-off all carrying significant consequences.

For the teams involved, there is now little room for error. A place in a county final is within touching distance, while for Kildorrery and Glanworth, survival in the Intermediate A Football Championship is the prize on offer.

The weekend gets underway on Friday, October 9, with two semi-finals throwing-in simultaneously at 7.30pm.

In the Premier Junior Football Championship, Canovee and Inniscarra meet in Macroom, while Kilmurry and Boherbue go head-to-head in Mourneabbey in the Intermediate A Football Championship.

Both games offer the winners a place in their respective county finals and set the tone for a weekend where every result will have a major bearing on the destination of silverware.

Super Saturday

Saturday brings seven fixtures across the county, including a double-header at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh that will take centre stage.

The afternoon begins with three football championship semi-finals and a relegation play-off.

Adrigole and Buttevant meet in Kilmichael in the Intermediate A Football Championship, while Éire Óg face Cill na Martra in the Senior A Football Championship in Coachford.

At 3pm in Carrigtwohill, Cobh and St. Nick’s will contest the second Premier Junior Football Championship semi-final, while Kildorrery and Glanworth meet in Shanballymore with their Intermediate A Football Championship status on the line.

The spotlight then turns to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

At 5.15pm, Carrigaline and Nemo Rangers meet in the first Premier Senior Football Championship semi-final, with both clubs looking to take the next step towards county final glory.

That will be followed at 7pm by another heavyweight contest as Clonakilty and St. Finbarr’s meet in the second Premier Senior Football Championship semi-final.

Two games, one venue and two county final places at stake will make for a major evening of championship football at Cork GAA headquarters.

Three more semi-finals on Sunday

Sunday brings the championship action to Macroom, Mallow and beyond, with three further semi-finals on the schedule.

At 2pm in Macroom, Uibh Laoire and Naomh Abán meet in the Premier Intermediate Football Championship.

An hour later, Kiskeam and Fermoy go head-to-head in Mallow in the other Premier Intermediate Football Championship semi-final.

The weekend’s final game is another Senior A Football Championship semi-final, with Carbery Rangers facing Kanturk at 4pm in Macroom.

That fixture is currently scheduled for October 11, but will move to October 25 if Kanturk reach the Premier Senior Hurling Championship final.

County final places in sight

By Sunday evening, a host of clubs will have secured their place in county finals, while others will be left to reflect on campaigns that have come to an end.

For those still standing, however, the finish line will be getting closer.

Across three days and 11 fixtures, clubs will be chasing county final places, championship survival and the opportunity to keep their season alive.
