Winterlee’ is coming to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh this festive season

As the popular Alpine Skate Trail moves to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh this winter, there’s been an even bigger announcement made today.

‘Winterlee’, a new immersive winter wonderland experience, is coming to Cork City.

The Christmas market will feature various wooden chalets offering festive food and drinks, local craft stalls, a funfair, and, of course, Cork’s favourite ice skating experience, Alpine Skate Trail!

Three homegrown Cork businesses – Cool Running Events, SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh and Brook Foods – have teamed up, combining the thrill of a skate trail, a bustling winter village and a vibrant funfair to create Winterlee.

Bill Cremin, Managing Director of Cool Running Events said: “We couldn’t be happier with our new home at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

“At Cool Running Events, we like to bring the unimaginable to life and we certainly feel like we’re doing that by opening the world’s first ice skating trail in a stadium concourse.

“After serving the people of Cork since 2007 with Cork On Ice, before moving to Fota House for a few years, we knew our return to the city would need to be spectacular, and that’s what Winterlee will be.

“We’re delighted to team up with SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh and Brook Foods for the most unique Winter experience in Cork City, and one we’ll remember for a long, long time.”

Kevin O’Donovan, CEO of Cork GAA & SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh, added: “We are excited to see our stadium continue to evolve, offering a unique experience for the Cork public and beyond.

” I am delighted to welcome Bill and the team at Cool Running Events, we believe this will be the first skate through an international stadium.

“Together with our catering partners, Brook Foods, we will provide yet another opportunity for people to gather in Cork City and experience our venue on a whole new level.”

Alpine Skate Trail will officially open its doors on 8th November, along with Winterlee, and will run through to 19th January, offering a fun-filled winter experience for families, friends, teams, clubs, schools, and corporate groups.

Kieran Callinan, Managing Director of Brook Foods operating the market, food and drinks offerings and funfair, said: “Brook Foods are excited to partner with SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh and Cool Running Events in creating Winterlee, a transformational Winter experience designed to appeal to everyone of all ages that are out to enjoy themselves for the festive period- it will be a must visit destination in Cork City.”

To celebrate the announcement of Winterlee, Alpine Skate Trail is offering limited Early Bird ice skating tickets at a discounted price at iceskating.ie.

Alpine Skate Trail

Alpine Skate Trail, Cork’s favourite ice skating experience, returns to Cork City in 2024, and to the home of Cork GAA, SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on November 8th 2024.

What started with Cork On Ice in 2007 has grown considerably over the last few years which saw a move to Fota House and Gardens, the creation of Ireland’s first ice skating trail (and outdoor ice skating experience) and now back to the City Centre, where it all started.

This year’s experience will be special, with 150 metres of ice skating trail going under the north stand of Cork’s historic Gaelic Games stadium. Iceskating.ie, owners of Alpine Skate Trail, have secured the help of Culture Creative, an award-winning creator of illuminated trails, to help theme and decorate the experience and make this a winter wonderland to remember.

Early Bird tickets at just €14 (saving of up to 33%) are now on sale. There are limited amounts available for every date throughout the ice skating season so make sure to Book Now to avoid disappointment.
