Canovee’s road to Munster

Canovee went through the county championship unbeaten, which made up for the late goal that cost them the 2024 final against neighbours Kilmurry.

In the semi-final, Darragh McMahon scored two goals, one from a penalty. In a windy, low-scoring final, Aidan Murphy controlled midfield for Canovee. Joint captain Liam Kelleher made a late turnover that stopped Cobh from equalising.

The club has history at this level: Canovee won the Munster Junior Club Football title in 2007 and went on to win the All-Ireland the following year.

The opposition: Parteen/Meelick

Parteen/Meelick are the new Clare Junior A champions. They beat O’Currys 2-9 (15) to 1-5 (8) in the final at St Michael’s Park, Kilmihil.

Their semi-final was a 2-15 (21) to 1-9 (12) win over Kilkee in Lissycasey, where they pulled clear with a strong second half. They finished the final the same way, scoring 2-6 without reply from the 37th minute. E O’Brien scored 2-1 in the final, including a penalty.

It is the club’s first Junior A title as Parteen/Meelick. Meelick won the title in 2011 and 2016. The win also earns promotion, and the club will play intermediate football in Clare for the first time in 2027. Liam O’Connell manages the side.

What’s next?

The winners will play Athea (Limerick) or Mullinahone (Tipperary) in the Munster semi-final on Saturday 21 November. The Munster Junior Club Football final is on Saturday 5 December.
