Club Player Survey: Players Provide Valuable Feedback

A recent survey conducted by Cork GAA gathered insights from players across the county on the current County Leagues and Championships. This initiative aimed to assess satisfaction levels and gather constructive feedback to improve future competitions.

 

Survey Participation

A total of 800 players who competed in the five relevant grades (Premier Junior to Senior) during the 2024 season took part in this confidential survey. Each participant identified their name and club to ensure a comprehensive and credible data set. The breakdown of participants included:

• 204 dual players
• 304 football-only players
• 292 hurling-only players

Cork GAA extends sincere thanks to all clubs for facilitating the survey and to the players for their valuable input.

Key Findings

1. Split Season/Calendar
   • 86.5% of players are in favor of the current split season.
   • 13.5% expressed dissatisfaction.
2. Cork County Championship Format
   • 89% of players support the current format.
   • 11% shared concerns, primarily about the length and compressed nature of the season and pressures on dual clubs.
3. County League Games
   • 87% of respondents were satisfied or neutral about the number of games available.
   • 13% were dissatisfied, citing issues such as:
     • Too many games for dual clubs.
     • Insufficient games for single-code clubs.
4. Guaranteed County Championship Games
   • 96% of players were satisfied or neutral.
   • 4% were dissatisfied, pointing to challenges such as the close proximity of games and the impact of injuries.

Feedback and Suggestions

Participants provided additional comments and suggestions, which included:

• Opinions on the involvement of divisional teams and colleges in competitions.
• Opinions for introducing home/away games in championship formats.
