Ian Jones is set to take up a role as strength and conditioning coach with the Cork senior hurling team.
The Bishopstown native, who played Cork in minor, U21 and senior football as well as representing his club in the 2012 Cork SHC final, is currently the head of athletic development with Setanta College and brings a vast level of experience.
Over the past decade or so, he has worked with Hockey Ireland, London Welsh RFC, USA Rugby, Penn State Universtity, NFL sides the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans as well as the Salt Lake Stallions of the Alliance of American Football, Wagner College and the University of New Orleans.
Jones, who succeeds Stephen Casey in Pat Ryan’s backroom team, also holds a post as the head of athletic development for Bishopstown GAA, camogie and ladies’ football clubs.

St Oliver Plunkett’s win Junior B confined final
St Oliver Plunkett’s emerged triumphant in the Bon Secours Hospital Cork Junior B Football Championship final against Ballyphehane at Páirc Uí Rinn on a Saturday afternoon, securing a glorious victory.
The match began with a dream start for St Oliver Plunkett’s, as they swiftly gained an advantage with a goal courtesy of Pádraig Healy. This early breakthrough undoubtedly provided a boost of momentum for St Oliver Plunkett’s in the final.
However, Ballyphehane fought back valiantly, showcasing their determination. Their response came in the form of a goal scored by Cian O’Brien, who also contributed a point from open play. These contributions from O’Brien demonstrated his impact on the match and kept Ballyphehane in contention.

Lismire clinch Junior C title
Lismire made history by clinching the Bon Secours Hospital Cork Junior C Football Championship title for the first time ever. Their hard-fought victory over Ballinacurra in the final at Páirc Uí Rinn showcased their determination and skill.
The game saw Lismire secure two crucial goals, courtesy of Damien Finn and Rory Sheahan, which ultimately proved to be the turning point in the county final.
Jake Hegarty of Ballinacurra displayed an impressive performance, contributing six points to his team’s overall score. Four of these points were from frees.
