The McCarthy Insurance Group Football Championship produced another dramatic day of action on Sunday, with quarter-final ties and a relegation battle taking centre stage.
In the Premier Senior Football Championship quarter-final, Newcestown and Carrigaline could not be separated in normal time, finishing 0-18 apiece after an enthralling contest. With nothing to divide the sides, the game went to penalties where Newcestown held their nerve to prevail 4-3 in the shoot-out, booking their place in the last four.
Defending county champions Castlehaven saw their title defence ended by a ruthless St Finbarr’s side, who delivered a stunning attacking display. The Barrs struck six goals in a 6-11 to 0-19 victory, their firepower proving decisive against last year’s winners.
The final quarter-final in the grade saw Ballincollig edge past Duhallow by 1-15 to 2-11. Despite a spirited late push from Duhallow, Ballincollig held firm to secure their semi-final place.
In the Senior ‘A’ Championship quarter-final, Éire Óg advanced with a 1-17 to 1-13 win over Bishopstown. A crucial second-half goal created daylight between the teams and Éire Óg kept control in the closing stages to progress.
The day’s action also included a tense Premier Intermediate relegation play-off, where Macroom edged out Bandon by a single point in a high-scoring thriller, 2-20 to 2-19. The narrow win ensured Macroom’s survival, while Bandon now face the drop.
With quarter-final places decided and champions dethroned, the McCarthy Insurance Group Championships continue to deliver drama at every level.

In the Premier Senior Football Championship, Carbery Rangers and Valley Rovers could not be separated in their relegation play-off, finishing level on 1-9 apiece. The CCCC of the board will meet in the coming days to confirm details of the replay.
The Senior ‘A’ Football Championship served up high-scoring ties. Knocknagree edged Kanturk in a thrilling contest, running out winners by 2-19 to 0-23 to secure their place in the Semi-Finals. O’Donovan Rossa also had reason to celebrate after surviving their relegation battle with a 1-18 to 0-17 victory over Fermoy.
Meanwhile, decisive quarter-final action in the Premier Intermediate Championship saw Aghabullogue prove too strong for Kiskeam, winning 3-16 to 0-12, while Aghada marched through with a 2-12 to 0-10 victory over Glanmire.
In the Intermediate ‘A’ Championship, Dromtarriffe edged out St Vincent’s in a tight relegation play-off on a 3-13 to 2-15 scoreline. Ilen Rovers booked their place in the last four with a 2-12 to 1-10 win against Mitchelstown, and Ballinora also advanced after overcoming Gabriel Rangers 1-13 to 1-11.
The Premier Junior Championship provided plenty of talking points. Millstreet got the better of Ballydesmond in their relegation clash, winning 1-14 to 0-13. In the knock-out stages, Canovee advanced with an impressive 3-16 to 2-8 win over Cullen, while Cobh edged Inniscarra 1-12 to 0-14 to set up a semi-final clash

It’s a bumper weekend of championship action across Cork, with County Quarter-Finals taking centre stage and crucial relegation ties also on the line.
The action begins on Friday night in Ballyhooly, where at 7:45pm Erins Own and Newtownshandrum meet once again in a Co-Op Superstores Premier SHC relegation play-off replay.
On Saturday, the spotlight turns to football. At 5:00pm in Enniskeane, Carbery Rangers and Valley Rovers clash in a Senior Football relegation showdown, while at the very same time in Kilbrin, Knocknagree meet Kanturk in the Senior ‘A’ Championship. Also at 5:00pm, Páirc Uí Rinn stages another huge relegation battle as Fermoy face O’Donovan Rossa.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Premier Intermediate Football Championship throws in with Aghabullogue against Kiskeam in Banteer at 4:15pm, followed by Glanmire meeting Aghada in Lisgoold at 5:00pm.
The Intermediate ‘A’ Football Championship also brings big drama, with Dromtarriffe and St Vincents squaring off in Macroom at 4:00pm in a relegation clash. Just half an hour later, Ilen Rovers and Mitchelstown meet in Newcestown at 4:30pm, before Gabriel Rangers and Ballinora line out in Rossmore at 5:30pm.
In the Premier Junior Football Championship, Millstreet and Ballydesmond face each other in Boherbue at 2:00pm in a relegation battle, before Cullen take on Canovee in Donoughmore at 4:00pm. At the very same time, Inniscarra and Cobh meet in Grenagh.
Sunday’s action is just as packed. At 2:00pm in Páirc Uí Rinn, Newcestown meet Carrigaline in the Senior Football Championship, while an hour later in Clonakilty, St Finbarrs face Castlehaven in what promises to be one of the ties of the round. Back in Páirc Uí Rinn at 4:00pm, Ballincollig meet Duhallow in another heavyweight clash.
