Cork 20’s book their place in Munster Semi-Final

Cork powered past Clare on a 4-19 to 2-21 scoreline in the Munster U20 Hurling Championship at Páirc Uí Chaoimh, with four goals proving decisive in a thrilling contest that will be repeated in next week’s semi-final.

Trailing by a point at half-time (1-11 to 1-10), Cork exploded into the second half. Colm Garde levelled before a slick move ended with Johnny Murphy firing to the net. Further goals from Barry Walsh and Finn O’Brien kept Cork in control during a tense finale.

Clare, who had won their previous three games, pushed hard with Fred Hegarty and Thomas O’Connor leading the charge. O’Connor struck twice for goal, while Hegarty’s scoring kept the Banner within touching distance.

However, Cork’s resilience proved key. Goalkeeper Oisín Walsh produced vital saves, and Barry Walsh sealed the win with a superb late point.

Success in All-Ireland ScĂłr Sinsear Finals

Last Saturday, April 25th, saw a strong Cork contingent head to Castlebar for the All-Ireland ScĂłr Sinsear Finals.

It was a fantastic occasion for SibĂ©al NĂ Mhordha who brought the AmhrĂĄnaĂocht Aonair cup back to the Rebel county. Isabelle from Raonaithe Cairbre captivated the audience with her performance of ‘Ned of the Hill’ and captured only Cork’s second AmhrĂĄnaĂocht Aonair title following Elle-Marie O’Dwyer’s (Freemount) victory in 2009. This is Carbery Ranger’s second All-Ireland ScĂłr Sinsear title following their BailĂ©ad GhrĂșpa win in 2018. The large Cork crowd in contingent made it a celebration Isbelle would never forget as incidentally, this was Isabelle’s 20th birthday, with ‘Happy Birthday‘ ringing out as Isabelle made her way to the stage to collect the silverware, having etched herself into the history books and her place in the ‘Roll of Honour’ is permanent. Isabelle received her prizes from UachtarĂĄn CLG, Iarlaith Ó Broin and Cathaoirleach Coiste NĂĄisiĂșnta ScĂłr, PĂłilĂn Mhig Aoidh. RĂșnaĂ ScĂłr ChorcaĂ, MĂĄirĂ©ad UĂ FhaolĂĄin also in attendance to congratulate Isabelle on her victory.
Well done to all our representatives who just came up short for National honours; Raonaithe Cairbre (BailĂ©ad GhrĂșpa), Naomh SĂ©amus (Nuachleas) & SrĂĄid a Mhuilinn (TrĂĄth na gCeist).
It was a fantastic day for everyone involved with superb talent on display from all over the country.
