
Weekend Results Round-Up – McCarthy Insurance Group Football Championship, Round 2
It was a thrilling weekend of football across Cork with plenty of drama, goals and standout performances in Round 2 of the McCarthy Insurance Group Championships.
In the Senior Championship, Castlehaven laid down a serious marker with a big win over Valley Rovers, while Newcestown edged past Mallow. Nemo Rangers got the better of Douglas, and Carrigaline hit three goals to overcome Clonakilty. St Finbarr’s and St Michaels also picked up hard-fought victories.
The Senior ‘A’ Championship served up plenty of excitement as Cill na Martra powered past Fermoy, while Newmarket, Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh and Bishopstown all came out on top. Kanturk and Knocknagree impressed with goal-heavy wins over Kilshannig and Clyda Rovers.
In the Premier Intermediate Championship, Aghada’s six-goal haul helped them past Bantry Blues, while Aghabullogue saw off Nemo Rangers. Rockchapel vs Bandon and Macroom vs Kiskeam both ended level, Glanmire fell to Naomh Abán, and Uibh Laoire had a massive 5-11 to 0-5 victory over Castletownbere.
The Intermediate ‘A’ Championship featured tight battles all around, with Adrigole, Mitchelstown and Boherbue earning wins. Kildorrery vs Gabriel Rangers, Ilen Rovers vs Kilmurry, and Glanworth vs Ballinora all finished in stalemates.
In the Premier Junior Championship, there were some big scores on the board – Inniscarra racked up four goals against Glenville, while Buttevant hit an incredible 4-27 against Millstreet. Kinsale, Urhan, Cobh and St Nicks also recorded important wins.
Round 2 is complete, and the race for knockout places is well and truly heating up.

It was another action-packed Sunday across the county with plenty of drama, goals, and standout performances in the McCarthy Insurance Group Football Championships.
In the Senior Football Championship, Carrigaline impressed with a 3-13 to 1-13 victory over Clonakilty, while St Finbarr’s edged past Carbery Rangers 1-10 to 0-11. St Michaels and Ballincollig couldn’t be separated by much either, with Michaels taking a 0-14 to 1-11 win.
The Senior ‘A’ Championship saw Kanturk run out 3-13 to 2-8 winners against Kilshannig. Knocknagree came out on top in a high-scoring clash with Clyda Rovers (3-17 to 2-14), while Bishopstown edged O’Donovan Rossa by a single point (2-13 to 1-13).
In the Premier Intermediate Championship, Naomh Aban overcame Glanmire 1-10 to 0-8, and Uibh Laoire put on a dominant display with a 5-11 to 0-5 win over Castletownbere.
The Intermediate ‘A’ Championship produced its share of excitement too. Glanworth and Ballinora finished level at 1-13 apiece, Mitchelstown defeated Dromtarriffe 2-16 to 0-17, and Boherbue narrowly edged St Vincents 1-14 to 1-12.
Finally, in the Premier Junior Championship, Cobh recorded a strong 0-17 to 1-9 win over Na Piarsaigh, while St Nicks hit 2-16 to get past Canovee (0-15).
