Cork GAA: Rebels Going Green Initiative
Cork GAA is demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability and building a better future for its communities, people, and the planet. This initiative, known as Rebels Going Green, is more than just a sports program—it recognizes Cork GAA’s vital role as a pillar of community identity, pride, and belonging.
The Sustainability Roadshows, such as the one held in Mallow on October 13th, 2025, are designed to drive this change through key objectives and a clear roadmap:
-
Community Engagement: Every Cork GAA unit, from local parishes to schools, is encouraged to engage in sustainability efforts. This includes an Annual Clean-Up Day to involve members and communities in environmental stewardship.
-
Key Initiatives: The program promotes the Green Clubs Initiative focusing on Energy, Water, Waste, Biodiversity, and Travel within local clubs.
-
A Sustainable Vision: Cork GAA has set a goal for SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh to be Ireland’s most sustainable stadia by 2028 , serving as a measurable exemplar for energy efficiency and waste reduction.
-
Clear Roadmap: The plan includes establishing a Sustainability Committee and appointing a County Sustainability Officer in 2025, followed by launching native tree planting and biodiversity efforts in 2026–2027.
The entire initiative is sustained by a vision of continuous improvement and innovation to ensure a lasting legacy for future players and supporters
