Minors win in Semple Stadium to book All-Ireland Q-Final

Cork minor hurling team staged a superb late rally to defeat Wexford GAA minor hurling team by 2-18 to 2-15 in a dramatic Electric Ireland All-Ireland MHC preliminary quarter-final at FBD Semple Stadium.

For over 50 minutes, Cork struggled to contain an impressive Wexford side who looked on course for victory after building a 1-15 to 0-13 advantage. Jack Tobin was central to Wexford’s dominance, finishing with 1-5, while Seán Kavanagh contributed three excellent points during a spell where the Leinster side completely controlled proceedings.

Cork, however, refused to panic. Substitute Liam O’Regan sparked the comeback with a valuable point before captain Eoin Considine, pushed from wing-back into full-forward, reacted brilliantly to finish to the net after Stephen McHugh’s delivery caused confusion in the Wexford defence.

That goal transformed the game. Cork levelled through Cormac Murphy after excellent work from centre-back Dave Nolan, and the Rebels suddenly carried all the momentum. Another substitute, Sam McCarthy, proved hugely influential, first putting Cork ahead with a point before later firing a decisive second goal following good approach play involving Considine and Conor Ronayne.

Ben Power led Cork’s scoring with 0-7, while McCarthy finished with 1-2 and Considine added 1-0. Cork also received important contributions from Murphy, Callum Coffey and Nolan.

Wexford did grab a late goal through Jamie Downey after a strong run from Jack Furlong, but McCarthy settled Cork nerves with the final point as the Rebels completed an unlikely but deserved turnaround to keep their championship alive.

Cork Minor Hurling team to play Limerick has been announced

Cork Minor Hurling Manager Dónal Mulcahy has announced his team to face Limerick this Friday, May 9th at 7:00pm in Páirc Uí Rinn in the Munster Minor Hurling Championship.

The team to play is as follows

Minors beat Clare in Páirc Uí Rinn

Cork 1-22 Clare 1-12

Cork strengthened their push for a Munster MHC final place with a controlled win over Clare at Páirc Uí Rinn on Friday night. After a recent defeat to Tipperary, this performance keeps a rematch with the Premier within reach.

The Rebels were well served by captain Eoin Considine at wing-back and Callum Coffey in attack, who scored 0-4 from play. The game’s key moment arrived when Considine’s high catch sparked a sweeping move finished by Tadhg McCarthy’s goal, giving Cork a 1-11 to 1-6 lead on 33 minutes.

From there Cork took control. Coffey, McCarthy and Bobby Power led the scoring, with Power finishing on 0-8 overall. Clare briefly fought back when James O’Donnell struck a goal, but Cork responded strongly and never relinquished control after half-time.

Although Cork were wasteful in front of goal early on, their defence remained solid and limited Clare’s scoring opportunities. Further points from play and frees stretched the gap into double figures late on, with Ben Talty providing Clare’s final score.

Cork now face Limerick knowing a draw will be enough to reach the Munster final, while Clare must await other results. Cork’s win underlined their progress in the championship and sets up a decisive clash with Limerick next weekend where qualification for the final will be at stake decided.
