Cork GAA mourns former Cork footballer, Kevin Kehily,

Munster football final at Pairc Ui Chaoimh 1976;  Cork defender Kevin Kehily clearing past Kerry forward John Egan .

Cork GAA wish to be associated with the expressions of sympathy on the passing of Kevin Kehily, former Cork Senior Footballer.

To say Kevin was a legend of Cork GAA teams of the past is an understatement and is a term not used loosely.

A member of the Newcestown Club, Kevin won Munster colleges titles with Hamilton High School, Bandon.

He won Cork County Junior titles in both codes with his club, Newcestown,  before leading them to Cork County Intermediate football glory in 1971.

Double success was achieved with his divisional side, Carbery, when the Cork County Senior football championship was annexed in 1967 and 1971.

With Cork, Munster & All Ireland success came in Minor (1967) and U21 Football (1970)

Kevin trained the Cork Senior Hurling team which won three in a row All Ireland Senior Hurling finals 1976 to 1978.

His career with the rebels senior footballers spanned 15 years from 1969 to 1984 winning three Munster titles (1971, 1974 and 1983) and two All Star awards in 1980 at full back, with Cork defeating Kerry in the National Football league final, and in 1982 at left corner back a year in which the kingdom defeated the Rebels in National League & Munster championship finals after a replay in both.

His duals in the red jersey with Eoin Liston (Kerry) are part of GAA folklore.

A physical education teacher by profession, Kevin was domiciled in Bishopstown, and was involved with his adopted club leading them to Cork Senior Football finals of 2002 & 2004.

He was selected on the football ”Stars of the 1980’s” and was honoured on All Ireland SFC final day of 2013.

Sympathy of the Cork GAA community to Kevin’s wife Eileen, daughters Deirdre and Ciara and son Diarmuid.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilis.
