Saturday Round-Up

Cork SAHC semi-final: Carrigtwohill 0-25 Blarney 0-21

Carrigtwohill’s remarkable run continues after they overcame Blarney at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh to reach the Senior A final. They lost talisman Seán Walsh on the eve of the championship, were beaten in their opener and trailed Ballinhassig late in their final group game. They then needed a late goal and penalties to see off Na Piarsaigh in the quarter-final. Denis Walsh’s side recovered from a slow start here to lead 0-12 to 0-9 at the break and were never caught. Their relentless work rate kept an error-strewn Blarney at arm’s length. Patrick Walsh hit six from play and James Mulcahy added seven.

Cork SAHC semi-final: Erin’s Own 1-22 Watergrasshill 0-16

Erin’s Own are one game away from an immediate return to premier senior after easing clear of Watergrasshill in the second half. The Hill shaded the opening quarter, but Erin’s Own, perhaps rusty after a four-week lay-off, settled to lead 0-13 to 0-10 at the break. The decisive moment came in the 39th minute. With centre-back Oran O’Regan injured, attacker Shane Irwin was introduced and Peter O’Shea moved to defence. Irwin then drove a blistering shot past Aiden Foley to push his side seven clear. Cork PIHC semi-final: Ballincollig 1-25 Carrigaline 2-19

Ballincollig are back in the Premier IHC final after a stirring comeback against Carrigaline in Ovens. Playing against the wind, the Village trailed 1-15 to 0-11 at half-time after Brian Kelleher’s penalty. They fell 2-17 to 0-15 behind when Finn O’Connell netted a rebound on 45 minutes. The introduction of Brian Keating, son of manager Éamonn and only just back from injury, changed everything. His low finish sparked a surge that saw them outscore Carrigaline seven points to one, and goalkeeper James Linehan made key saves. Stephen Wills hit nine points as they set up a final against Dungourney.

Cork PIHC semi-final: Dungourney 2-14 Valley Rovers 1-15

Corner-back Dylan Healy was Dungourney’s unlikely hero at Ballyanly. He popped up in attack with the last play of the game to snatch a place in the Premier IHC final. The sides were level six times in the first half before Cillian O’Callaghan’s goal, set up by a Kelvin Coady Byrne burst, helped Dungourney lead 1-7 to 0-9 at the break. O’Callaghan’s 57th-minute point put them 1-14 to 0-14 ahead. Valleys hit back, and Eoghan Crowley’s injury-time goal edged them in front, 1-15 to 1-14. Coady Byrne then played in Healy for the winner, setting up a final against Ballincollig.

Cork IHC semi-final: Bandon 3-19 Midleton 1-17

Bandon booked an Intermediate final date with Aghada after a superb second-half display at Church Road. Jack Cullinane goaled inside 20 seconds after a fine catch and solo, and a Sean Carey brace helped the west Cork side into a six-point lead. Midleton grew into the game, however, and finished the half strongly to draw level at 1-9 to 0-12. Substitute Kevin Hannon proved decisive, goaling a minute after his 36th-minute introduction. Mark Sugrue then finished to the net when Hannon’s shot came back off the crossbar. Luke O’Farrell’s 48th-minute goal off the bench was scant consolation for Midleton.

Cork PJHC semi-final: St Catherine’s 5-19 Barryroe 1-18

St Catherine’s reached their third Premier Junior final in four years with a ruthless display against Barryroe. Goalkeeper Eoin Davis denied Olan O’Donovan inside 30 seconds, and the Ballynoe/Conna side edged a close first half to lead 0-11 to 0-9. Barryroe hit the crossbar soon after the restart but were punished as Brian Mulcahy, who finished with 2-3, struck twice in quick succession. Substitute Gearóid O’Brien added two more goals and Matt Mulcahy also netted, with Dan Mangan chipping in six points. O’Donovan’s goal came too late for Barryroe, and St Catherine’s will take some stopping in the final.
