The race for county honours moved another step closer to the finish line over Friday and Saturday, with five teams booking their places in the semi-finals across the McCarthy Insurance Group championships.

McCarthy Insurance Group IAFC

Boherbue 0-15 Dromtarriffe 0-12

Boherbue booked their place in the IAFC semi-finals after edging out Dromtarriffe in a hard-fought Duhallow derby at Ballydesmond on Friday night.

Dromtarriffe led early on, but Boherbue responded with five unanswered scores and never trailed again. They took a three-point lead into half-time and moved four clear midway through the second half.

The Duhallow rivals refused to give up, with Dromtarriffe reducing the deficit to a single point with just two minutes remaining. Boherbue, however, finished strongly with late scores from Gerry O’Sullivan and David O’Connor to secure the victory.

McCarthy Insurance Group Premier SFC

Clonakilty 1-17 Newcestown 2-13

Clonakilty booked their place in the Premier SFC semi-finals after a dramatic one-point victory over Newcestown at Sam Maguire Park, Dunmanway.

Having trailed by two points at half-time and been reduced to 14 players following a red card for Dan Darragh, Clonakilty produced an excellent second-half display to take control.

A goal from substitute Dylan Harrington helped them establish a seven-point advantage before Newcestown mounted a late comeback. Séamus O’Sullivan found the net and further scores reduced the gap to the minimum, but Clonakilty held firm to secure their first Premier SFC semi-final appearance since 2021.

Cork Senior A FC

Cill na Martra 1-16 Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh 0-12

Cill na Martra survived a second-half scare to advance to the Senior A FC semi-finals following victory over Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh in the Gaeltacht derby at Ballyvourney.

Cill na Martra dominated the opening stages and led by eight early in the second half before Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh hit back with five unanswered scores to move within two points.

Goalkeeper Micheál Ó Deasúna proved decisive, producing a superb double save before also landing a crucial two-point free. Cill na Martra regained control in the closing stages and finished strongly.

McCarthy Insurance Group Premier JFC

St Nicks 2-14 Kinsale 1-13

St Nicks produced an excellent second-half comeback to defeat Kinsale and reach the Premier JFC semi-finals.

Kinsale had established an eight-point advantage and appeared in control, but a late first-half goal from Rob Downey gave St Nicks renewed hope.

The Blackpool side took that momentum into the second half, with two-pointers from Eoin Downey and Conor McCarthy helping them move in front for the first time.

Substitute Danny Morris then found the net to give St Nicks breathing space, with further scores from Rob Downey and Dean Brosnan completing the comeback.

Buttevant 1-16 Mitchelstown 2-12

Buttevant edged a tight Avondhu contest against Mitchelstown at Glanworth to book their place in the IAFC semi-finals.

The Premier JFC champions from last year made excellent use of the two-point scoring opportunity, with five of their opening scores coming from beyond the normal scoring zone.

Mitchelstown recovered from an early deficit and the sides were level at half-time. The game remained finely balanced throughout the second half before Buttevant finished strongly, scoring the final three points to secure a one-point victory.
