Cork Minor Football Champions Bring All-Ireland Spirit to CUH Visit

Fresh from their memorable All-Ireland Minor Football Championship success, the Cork minor football team were proud to bring their Minster and All-Ireland trophies to Cork University Hospital (CUH) as they visited patients and staff on Thursday afternoon.
Led by team manager Keith Ricken and team captain Joe Miskella, the young Rebels took time away from their celebrations to visit the Children’s Ward and the Stroke Unit, sharing some special moments and bringing the excitement of their historic achievement to the hospital community.
The visit was facilitated by Alison Harvey from the Office of the Chief Executive at CUH, who helped organise the occasion and ensured the players and management received a warm welcome. The visit highlighted the strong connection between Cork GAA and the wider community, with the players taking the opportunity to thank hospital staff for their commitment and to share some All-Ireland joy with those receiving care.
Following their outstanding All-Ireland triumph, the Cork minor footballers once again showed that being a Rebel is about more than what happens on the pitch — it is about community, respect and giving back to the people who support them.

McCarthy Insurance Group Colleges/Divisions Confined Football Championship Round-Up

The McCarthy Insurance Group Colleges/Divisions Confined Football Championship has progressed through both the unseeded and seeded sections, with Carbery claiming the Derry Gowen Cup and advancing directly to the County Championship Preliminary Q-final and a meeting with UCC.

Avondhu topped the unseeded section with three consecutive victories. They opened with a 3-17 to 3-14 win over Seandún before defeating Beara 3-5 to 1-7 in Round 2. They completed the section with a 1-16 to 1-6 victory over Imokilly.

In the Seeded Section, Muskerry defeated Avondhu 3-17 to 3-12 in the Derry Gowen Cup semi-final. Carbery secured the second final berth after overcoming Duhallow 3-18 to 1-23.

Carbery won the Derry Gowen Cup Final, defeating Muskerry 2-23 to 2-15.

The remaining place in the knockout stages will be decided in the Preliminary Quarter-Final, where Carbery face UCC.

Road to the Finals: Red FM Hurling League Finals 2026

 

The countdown is on to a fantastic weekend of Cork club hurling as the Red FM Hurling League Finals take centre stage across the county.

Across three days, seven league titles will be decided as clubs from every division bid to finish their campaigns with silverware. From Friday evening’s Division 1 showdown to Sunday’s concluding finals, supporters can look forward to a weekend packed with quality hurling and fierce competition.

The action gets underway on Friday night with two mouth-watering encounters. Midleton and Sarsfields meet in the Division 1 Final in Carrigtwohill, while Blarney and Ballinhassig battle for Division 3 honours in Ballincollig.

Saturday sees three more trophies up for grabs. Erin’s Own face Bride Rovers in the Division 2 Final in Lisgoold, Kilworth take on Aghabullogue in the Division 4 decider at Riverstown, while Ballinora and Barryroe contest the Division 7 Final in Newcestown.

The weekend concludes on Sunday with two East Cork derbies. Cloyne and Dungourney meet in the Division 5 Final in Castlemartyr before Aghada and Sarsfields clash in the Division 6 Final in Cobh.

Every finalist has earned their place through months of impressive performances, overcoming tough opposition and producing some outstanding displays along the way. Supporters can now take a look back at each team’s journey to the decider, with results and highlights from every division.

Cloyne secured important wins against Glen Rovers, Ballygarvan, Midleton, Kilbrittain, Youghal and Tracton to reach the decider.

Aghada and Sarsfields contest the Division 6 final following consistent league campaigns that saw both clubs remain among the division’s strongest performers throughout the season. Aghada recorded victories over Diarmuid O Mathunas, Kinsale, Erins Own, Ballygiblin, Argideen Rangers, Ballinascarthy and Killavullen to secure their place in the final. Sarsfields responded with wins over Ballinascarthy, Mayfield, Argideen Rangers, Diarmuid O Mathunas, Erins Own and Kinsale.

Ballinora and Barryroe will meet in the Division 7 final after progressing through a competitive league campaign. Ballinora’s route to the decider included victories over Douglas, Meelin, Carraig na bhFear, Barryroe, St Finbarr’s and Killeagh, while Barryroe recorded wins against Killeagh, Na Piarsaigh, Douglas, St Finbarr’s and Meelin.

Cork’s Colm Lyons to referee All-Ireland Final 2026

The GAA is delighted to confirm that Colm Lyons from Cork will be the referee for the 2026 GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship Final on July 19th, between Galway and Limerick, in what will be Colm’s second Senior Final.

Colm is a member of the Nemo Rangers GAA Club and has also refereed the 2022 All-Ireland final between Limerick and Kilkenny, the All-Ireland Minor Final in 2012, the National Hurling League Final in 2017, the Leinster Hurling Final in 2017, the Munster Hurling Final in 2024 and the All-Ireland Senior Club final in 2018 & 2020.

In this year’s Hurling Championship, Colm has refereed Limerick vs Tipperary in the Munster Championship, as well as Galway vs Dublin and Galway vs Kilkenny in the Leinster Championship.

The Final will be Colm’s 39th Liam MacCarthy game to referee since his first in 2012.

His score umpires on the day will be Ciarán Hanley from the Brian Dillons Club, Jim McEvoy from Blarney, Philip Mackey and Finian Mullane, both from the Nemo Rangers club.

His line umpires on the day will be Wexford’s James Owens and Dublin’s Chris Mooney. James will be the standby referee, and the Sideline Official will be Niall Malone from Clare. David Grogan from Tipperary will be the Hawkeye Official.
