The 2026 Tom Creedon Cup – Knockout Stages

The 2026 Tom Creedon Cup will be contested on a knockout basis this year, with five Intermediate football teams competing for the prestigious trophy.

Macroom, Kilmurry, Naomh Abán, Castletownbere and Gabriel Rangers will battle it out, with the competition set to throw in this weekend with Kilmurry and Naoimh Abán meeting in Macroom on Saturday

📌 What Is the Tom Creedon Cup?

The Tom Creedon Cup is a long-standing competition in Cork GAA, established in 1985 in memory of Tom Creedon, the much-loved Macroom and Cork footballer who tragically passed away in 1983.

The competition was presented to Macroom GAA, Muskerry GAA and the Cork County Board by the Creedon family and has since become a respected feature of the Intermediate football calendar.

👤 Who Was Tom Creedon?

Tom Creedon (1954–1983) was a native of Macroom, a Cork senior footballer, and a leader on and off the field. A National League winner with Cork in 1980, he also won Railway Cups with Munster in 1977 and 1981.

He captained Macroom through the ranks and helped them return to senior level just before his untimely death. Tom’s legacy is one of commitment, class and Cork pride — and the Tom Creedon Cup continues to keep his memory alive.

Sunday Match Highlights

  • Premier Senior: Blackrock won a mammoth shootout against Fr. O’Neill’s, racking up 3-29 to 2-23. Meanwhile, Glen Rovers edged Kanturk 3-20 to 1-24 in a relentless battle.
  • Senior A: Blarney produced a powerhouse offensive display to defeat Ballyhea 2-28 to 0-20. Watergrasshill held off Castlelyons 2-19 to 3-13, Erin’s Own overcame Killeagh 2-15 to 0-15, and Ballinhassig picked up a hard-fought 1-19 to 1-16 win over Inniscarra.
  • Premier Intermediate: Ballincollig proved too strong for Éire Óg (2-23 to 1-18), while Aghabullogue shot 0-29 to claim victory over Bishopstown (0-20).
  • Intermediate A & Premier Junior: Mallow came out on top 1-25 to 5-13 in an extraordinary eight-goal game against Kildorrery. In PJHC, Barryroe registered a tight 1-18 to 0-16 victory against Argideen Rangers.

A tribute to the late Jimmy Lynam RIP
Cork GAA is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jimmy Lynam at the age of 100 years. Jimmy served the GAA in Cork with distinction, both as a player and an administrator. He was a highly decorated player with Glen Rovers and St Nick’s,  his beloved clubs, to whom he devoted a lifetime of service.
He was a multiple senior county medal winner in hurling and football, and a Harty Cup winner with the North Monastery. He won two All-Ireland senior hurling titles with Cork, in 1952 and 53, sharing success with his fellow clubman Christy Ring.
Jimmy’s recent 100th birthday celebrations saw many well-deserved tributes paid in his honour, as he was a popular figure and a great ambassador for the GAA and its values. As we now mourn his passing, we recall a life well-lived. Cork GAA extends its condolences to Jimmy’s family and to Glen Rovers and St Nick’s.

Co-Op Superstores Hurling Championship Round-Up: Saturday, 22 August

There was a packed programme of Co-Op Superstores Hurling Championship action on Saturday, with games played across the Premier Senior, Senior ‘A’, Intermediate ‘A’, Premier Intermediate and Premier Junior grades.

Premier Senior Hurling Championship At Páirc Uí Rinn, Midleton edged out Newcestown 1-18 to 1-17, followed by a dominant performance from St Finbarr’s to defeat Bride Rovers 3-21 to 1-18. Over in Mallow, Sarsfields emerged on top of an eight-goal thriller against Newtownshandrum (4-21 to 4-14), and Charleville secured a five-point victory over Douglas (0-19 to 0-14).

Senior ‘A’ Hurling Championship Na Piarsaigh put on an attacking clinic, outscoring Fermoy 0-32 to 3-13.

Intermediate ‘A’ Hurling Championship Erins Own held off Ballygiblin 2-13 to 1-12, and Russell Rovers overcame Aghada 3-15 to 1-21.

Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Ballymartle and Carrigaline fought to a 3-17 apiece draw. Dungourney saw off Lisgoold 1-17 to 0-14, and Cloyne registered a four-point victory against Castlemartyr (2-13 to 2-9).

Premier Junior Hurling Championship Kilshannig posted a convincing 1-25 to 0-13 win over Glen Rovers, and Tracton came through a high-scoring shootout against Cloughduv, taking it 2-23 to 3-16.

Another busy day of championship action has been completed, with the race for knockout places continuing to intensify across the various grades.
