All to play for in McCarthy Insurance Group Premier Junior Football Championship;

ALL TO PLAY FOR IN ROUND 3 of McCARTHY INSURANCE GROUP PREMIER JUNIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP; (By Denis Hurley, The Echo)

With just one qualification spot definitely nailed down, there is much to play for as the group stages of the McCarthy Insurance Group Premier JFC concludes on Friday night (all games 7.30pm).

Kilmurry have booked their knockout spot from Group 1 after wins over Cobh and St James’, though the Mid-Cork side have yet to guarantee themselves first place.

They take on Canovee in what could be a cracking derby tie in Macroom on Friday, a game where the winners will finish top. If Kilmurry – beaten finalists last year – were to make it three wins from three, then Cobh could have a chance to take second place ahead of Canovee.

The East Cork side drew with last year’s JAFC winners four weeks ago, meaning that if they were to beat the already eliminated St James’ in Ovens and finish level on points with the Carrigadrohid club, scoring difference would determine the placings. Currently, Canovee are on +6 with Cobh on -1.

In Group 2, Kinsale lead the way with four points while Cullen and Glenville have two each and Ballydesmond have yet to register.

Despite the good start, Kinsale could theoretically miss out if they were to lose to Glenville in Páirc Uí Rinn, with Cullen overcoming Ballydesmond in Glantane. Such a scenario would leave a three-way tie on four points, necessitating scoring difference as a tie-breaker.

While Kinsale have maximum points, their scoring difference is +3 but Glenville’s is +5, meaning any defeat would have the Imokilly side ahead – Cullen are on -1 and a victory of three points or more would suffice.

On the other hand, if Kinsale were to win then Ballydesmond could squeeze into a tie for second if they win. However, with their scoring aggregate currently at -7, they would need to beat Cullen by four points and hope that Glenville suffer a substantial defeat to Kinsale.

Like Kinsale, Buttevant have two wins but are not yet mathematically certain of progress – however, a scoring difference of +35 means that it would take a catastrophic turn of events for them to miss out.

They face Urhan in Ballincollig and the Beara side have two points, along with St Nick’s, who meet Millstreet in Mourneabbey. Urhan have a scoring difference of -2, with the city side having -18 with Millstreet, who must win to have any hope, on -15.

Scór na nÓg is back for 2024

Scór na nÓg is back for 2024 and it is time for young GAA members to get set for the upcoming competitions. If you were U17 on January 1st 2024, get involved with your club and take part in any of the eight disciplines, Rince Foirne, Amhránaíocht Aonair, Aithriseoireacht/Scéalaíocht, Bailéad Ghrúpa, Nuachleas, Ceol Uirlise, Rince Seit & Tráth na gCeist.
Dates have also been set for the 2025 Scór na bPáistí competitions. National school children can take part in the usual eight Scór competitions plus Rince Aonair, Ceol Aonair & Rince Seanós.

Alpine Skate Trail

 

Alpine Skate Trail, Cork’s favourite ice skating experience, returns to Cork City in 2024, and to the home of Cork GAA, SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on November 8th 2024. 

What started with Cork On Ice in 2007 has grown considerably over the last few years which saw a move to Fota House and Gardens, the creation of Ireland’s first ice skating trail (and outdoor ice skating experience) and now back to the City Centre, where it all started.

This year’s experience will be special, with 150 metres of ice skating trail going under the north stand of Cork’s historic Gaelic Games stadium. Iceskating.ie, owners of Alpine Skate Trail, have secured the help of Culture Creative, an award-winning creator of illuminated trails, to help theme and decorate the experience and make this a winter wonderland to remember.

Cork Senior Hurlers Golf Classic, supporting their tour fund

 

Cork GAA is delighted to announce the Cork Senior Hurlers Golf Classic, supporting their tour fund, scheduled for Friday, October 4th at the prestigious Cork Golf Club.
In celebration of the team’s remarkable journey to the All-Ireland Final, teams of four are invited to participate in this prestigious event for €1,250 per team.

Cork GAA Clubs organise major voluntary clean up initiative in partnership with Cork County Council and Cork City Council;

Cork GAA Clubs Organise Major Voluntary Clean Up Initiative in Partnership with Cork County Council and Cork City Council

Cork GAA, one of the largest sporting organisations in Ireland, is proud to announce a significant voluntary clean up initiative spearheaded by its clubs and their dedicated members. This community-focused event will take place on Saturday, September 21 demonstrating the organisation’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community service.
The event, aptly named “Cork GAA Community Clean Up Day,” will see players, coaches, officials and supporters come together to clean up various locations across Cork City and County. With a goal of collecting and properly disposing of large volumes of waste, this initiative aims to foster a cleaner, healthier environment. It is supported as part of the Waste Enforcement Regional Lead Authorities (WERLAs) as part of their 2024 Anti-Dumping Initiative.
The date of the event is significant as it is the Saturday following World Clean Up day on Friday 20th September.

Mayor of Cork City, Cllr Dan Boyle said, “The GAA, in particular GAA clubs, are one of the most significant community-based organisations in the country. This initiative is very much to be welcomed and will have a ripple effect in many communities. It is sad that some people create litter, but it is heartening that more want to work together to see it removed. Go clean!”
Participants are encouraged to bring reusable gloves, bags, and other necessary equipment. Participating Cork GAA Clubs will provide additional supplies and refreshments to all volunteers.
