The adapted format creates a distinctive contest\, requiring players from both traditions to adapt their skills to a common set of rules. \nThe scoring system differs from standard hurling\, with goals worth three points\, while points scored from open play are worth one and certain long-range or free strikes can earn two points. \nThe result is a fast-paced international encounter that offers something different for supporters familiar with either sport. \nA Rivalry with a Long History\nThe relationship between the two sports stretches back well over a century. One of the earliest recorded meetings between shinty and hurling teams took place in 1896\, when London Scottish Camanachd Club faced London GAA in a friendly fixture. \nAn official contest using a combination of the two sports’ rules followed in Scotland in 1897. International meetings between Ireland and Scotland took place intermittently before a more regular series was established in the modern era. \nThe Gaelic Athletic Association and the Camanachd Association committed to an annual series in 2003\, helping to strengthen the relationship between the two sporting traditions. Following an interruption during the Covid-19 pandemic\, the series returned in 2023. \nIreland and Scotland have enjoyed a competitive rivalry over the years\, with the annual internationals continuing to provide a unique test for players from both countries. \nInternational Action at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh\nThe 2026 internationals will bring the series to Cork\, with both the camogie and hurling teams taking on Scotland in a special double-header at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh. \nThe programme begins with the Camogie and Shinty International at 4pm\, followed by the Hurling and Shinty International at 6pm. \nTickets are available now\, with admission priced at €12 for adults\, €5 for students and OAPs\, and free for Under-16s. \n2026 Shinty-Hurling and Camogie Internationals \nDate: Saturday\, October 24\nVenue: SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh\, Cork \n4pm: Ireland v Scotland – Camogie and Shinty\n6pm: Ireland v Scotland – Hurling and Shinty \nBUY TICKETS HERE \nSupporters are encouraged to come along and experience this distinctive international sporting occasion as Ireland and Scotland renew their rivalry on Leeside.
