We are all hugely proud of the significant role that the GAA plays in Irish society and the positive impact made at Club, school and County level through our promotion of our native games.However, with that role comes responsibility and never has this been more evident than in recent days, and the decision taken to suspend all GAA activity, matches and training at Club, school and County level across all grades and codes until March 29 inclusive.

Here, Uachtarán CLG John Horan and Ard Stiúrthóir Tom Ryan spell out the GAA’s position and our request to all of our members to do the right thing and to play our part.

 

 

Joint Media Release from the GAA, An Cumann Camógaíochta and the LGFA Covid-19 response

In light of this morning’s Government announcement, the GAA, An Cumann Camógaíochta and the Ladies Gaelic Football Association have decided to suspend all activity at club, inter-county and educational levels until March 29 (inclusive) from midnight.

This is to include all games, training and team gatherings at all ages and all grades.

We will continue to liaise with Government officials and review the situation between now and the end of the month, assessing the impact of these measures on our competitions. 

 

In the meantime, the Association is encouraging all members to continue to follow the guidelines which have been provided by the health authorities.

We closely monitored events as they unfolded this morning in relation to plans to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
We have been in daily contact with the experts in the HSE and the Department of Health since the start of the outbreak and will continue to taker their advice regarding arrangements in the work place and around the staging of games.
I would like to re-assure you that we will be doing all in our power to safeguard the health, safety and well-being of our members and players.
I have meetings with the Government and a call with Coiste Bainistíochta later this afternoon and will be back in touch to clarify matters at the earliest opportunity thereafter.

Advice for GAA Club and Counties on COVID-19

The GAA notes the most recent advice issued by the Government yesterday evening that there is no requirement at this stage to cancel planned mass gatherings.

The GAA has been asked by the HSE to follow all of their guidelines and recommendations in respect of the COVID-19 outbreak.

As part of this policy we have been instructed to tell all of our clubs and counties that anyone with queries regarding COVID-19 should be directed to the HSE.

The purpose of this approach is to ensure that there is one version of official communication rather than multiple statements and possible conflicting advice for members of the public.

Seminar for Women Involved in Club Administration

County Chairperson, Tracey Kennedy, will host a seminar for women involved in GAA club administration on Saturday, April 25th, from 10am to 1pm at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
The event will involve an address by Mary O’Connor, former Cork dual star and current CEO of the Federation of Irish Sport, and at least one other speaker (details tbc), a panel discussion involving current female club officers, and an opportunity to share experiences and suggest ways forward in supporting the greater involvement of women in GAA administration. Light refreshments will be provided, along with a tour of the stadium for those interested.
