This Saturday, August 3rd, promises to be a thrilling day of hurling action as the Co-Op Superstores Cork Hurling Championships continue with a full slate of fixtures across the county. From Páirc Uí Rinn to Bandon, some of the county’s top clubs will battle it out for vital championship points across Premier Senior, Senior A, Premier Intermediate, Intermediate A, and Premier Junior grades.

Four Cork Minor Hurlers Named on 2025 Electric Ireland Minor Star Hurling Team of the Year



Cork’s rising stars have been recognised on the national stage, with four Rebel hurlers selected on the 2025 Electric Ireland GAA Minor Star Hurling Team of the Year. Following a memorable championship campaign that saw Cork win the Munster Championship and reach the All-Ireland semi-finals, Cormac Deane (Killeagh), Michael Tadhg Brosnan (Glen Rovers), Darragh Heavin (Russell Rovers), and Colm Garde (Lisgoold) have all earned their place among the country’s elite minor talent.

The prestigious team, announced by Electric Ireland – proud sponsor of the Electric Ireland GAA Minor Championships – honours the top 15 performers from the 2025 Minor Hurling season. Now in its 14th year, the partnership continues to shine a light on the next generation of GAA stars, celebrating both individual excellence and the values of the Minor Championship.

This season’s competition was filled with thrilling encounters and breakout performances. Waterford captured the All-Ireland title beating Clare, with both counties dominating the Team of the Year selections: Waterford leading the way with five players, Clare earning four, and Cork matching that with four of their own. Kilkenny claimed the remaining two places.

Pat Horgan, Chairperson of Cork GAA, praised the achievement:

“We’re incredibly proud of our four young hurlers who have been named on the Electric Ireland Minor Star Team of the Year. Cormac, Michael Tadhg, Darragh, and Colm represented Cork with skill, determination, and pride throughout the season. Their inclusion is a testament not only to their own talent and hard work, but also to the dedication of their families, coaches, clubs, and schools. The future of Cork hurling is bright, and these players are leading the way.”

Launch of the 2025 Co-Op Superstores Cork County Hurling Championships
The launch of this years season was held at Co-Op Superstores Mallow store and attended by players from the clubs that won county titles in 2024, namely Imokilly (Premier Senior), Glen Rovers (Senior A), Watergrasshill (Premier Intermediate), Lisgoold (Intermediate A) and Russell Rovers (Premier Junior). Also in attendance were County Board representatives, including chairman Pat Horgan, Commercial Director Sinéad O’Keeffe, Cork GAA streaming partner Clubber and representatives from Co-Op Superstores, the championship sponsor.
Speaking at the launch, Pat Horgan said he was looking forward to an exciting championship, building on the success of last year’s competitions. He said:
‘Last year’s championships were very successful, and we enjoyed many exciting clashes. After a memorable first half of the year with Cork teams performing so well at various levels, I am sure we will see some equally terrific games this season, and I want to wish all our clubs and players well.’
Pat Horgan also thanked the sponsors Co-Op Superstores for their support.
Jerry Riordan, Retail Operations Manager at Co-Op Superstores said ‘We are very pleased to be associated once again with the Cork hurling championships. The first half of the year has shown that the enormous appetite for hurling in Cork remains unabated, and we are pleased to play our part in supporting the best players in the county to exhibit their prowess once more this year on the club stage’.
Cork GAA CEO Kevin O’Donovan also welcomed the commencement of the new season, and noted the involvement of Clubber, who will provide online coverage of Cork GAA championships in 2025. He noted: ‘Our partnership with Clubber will allow us to promote our teams and competitions to a large audience across the county and beyond. The success of Sarsfields in reaching last year’s All Ireland senior club final, and the performances of Imokilly in the county championships, not to mention the performances of our county team, shows the high level that Cork hurling is at. Moreover, the huge crowds in attendance at all of Cork’s games last year shows that the appetite for matches of high quality remains enormous, and we look forward to Clubber showcasing the best of Cork hurling this season”.
