Sarsfields Hurling Club is delighted to announce that a memorial statue of the late Teddy McCarthy will be unveiled on Saturday April 5th, 2025, at 3.30pm at Sarsfields’ grounds in Riverstown.
A plaque that records Teddy’s most notable achievements will also be displayed, together with bronze Sam Maguire Cup and Liam McCarthy Cup replicas, reflecting Teddy’s unique achievement in 1990 with Cork, as the first and only male player to win both senior hurling and football All-Ireland medals in the one year.
This event is the culmination of a lot of hard work and support from our community. We would like to thank our sponsors, donors, fellow GAA clubs, and all who supported our fundraising events over the last 18 months. We would also like to thank the relevant bodies that provided substantial grants to help fund the project. This achievement would not be possible without the generosity and support of all concerned.
Following approval from the Sarsfields membership at our recent club AGM, we are also pleased to announce that the Sarsfields ground will be renamed Páirc Tadhg MacCárthaigh as a further tribute to Teddy.
The unveiling event will be an historic day, where we will commemorate a man who gave his life to Sarsfields and the GAA, and we are looking forward to this wonderful occasion.
The statue will available to the public to view at Sarsfields Hurling Club from 4pm on Saturday April 5th, and all are welcome.
