The opening Saturday of the **Co-Op Superstores Cork Hurling Championships** saw 16 games played across five competitions, with a number of close contests and impressive opening-round performances.

In the Co-Op Superstores Premier Senior Hurling Championship, Kanturk recorded the highest-scoring win of the day, overcoming Fr O’Neill’s 3-25 to 2-15. Five points behind at half-time, the North Cork side produced a strong second-half display, with 12 different players contributing to the scoreboard.

Charleville also opened their campaign with a notable victory, defeating reigning champions Sarsfields 0-21 to 0-19 in Castletownroche. Cork captain Darragh Fitzgibbon top-scored with 0-11, while David Forde contributed two important sideline cuts.

Blackrock began their championship campaign with a 1-22 to 1-20 victory over Glen Rovers at Páirc Uí Rinn, with a late score in injury time securing the win.

Bride Rovers marked their return to the Premier Senior grade with a 1-20 to 0-14 win over Newcestown. Adam Walsh scored the game’s only goal, while Cillian Tobin and Brian Roche played key roles in the victory.

The Co-Op Superstores Senior ‘A’ Hurling Championship produced several competitive encounters. Blarney edged Castlelyons 1-21 to 1-20 in Riverstown, with Mark Coleman scoring a late goal from a close-range free to secure the win.

Ballinhassig and Courcey Rovers finished level after an entertaining contest in Kilbrittain, drawing 0-23 each. Courcey Rovers goalkeeper Stephen Nyhan scored a long-range equaliser with the final puck of the game.

Elsewhere, Inniscarra defeated Carrigtwohill 0-22 to 0-18, Watergrasshill overcame Ballyhea 1-23 to 1-17, Erin’s Own recorded a 1-19 to 0-15 victory over Na Piarsaigh, and Killeagh defeated Fermoy 1-19 to 1-16.

In the Co-Op Superstores Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship, Valley Rovers secured a 0-28 to 0-17 victory over Carrigaline in the Carrigdhoun derby, with Chris O’Leary contributing 0-13 of their total.

The Co-Op Superstores Intermediate ‘A’ Hurling Championship saw Mallow edge Midleton in a high-scoring contest, winning 1-26 to 0-27. Mallow’s goal proved the difference between the sides.

The Co-Op Superstores Premier Junior Hurling Championship also produced a number of close encounters. Kilshannig defeated Nemo Rangers 1-16 to 0-16, St Catherine’s overcame Cloughduv 1-22 to 1-20, Milford edged Tracton 1-20 to 2-16, and Barryroe recorded a 2-18 to 0-16 win over St Finbarr’s.
