Cork GAA Statement 18/03/2020

The Executive of Cork County Board met via video-conference on March 17th and, primarily with regard to the safety of our members and of the wider community, has decided to postpone the all first round games in the Premier Senior, Senior A, Premier Intermediate, Intermediate A and Lower Intermediate Championships in both football and hurling, as well as the County stages of the U21 football competitions and the County Junior B & C competitions.

These first round club championship games had been scheduled across the four weekends in April and the first two weekends in May, but are now postponed en bloc.

All other games and activities, including those under the jurisdiction of Rebel Óg, remain suspended as per GAA directive and advice from the HSE / Department of Health. This will continue until we are directed otherwise.

The scheduling and format of the County Championships for 2020 is now subject to review, in consultation with Munster Council, the National Competitions Control Committee and our Clubs.

Club league regulations and completion dates will also be reviewed once a resumption of activities is confirmed.

The offices at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh will be closed until such time as current restrictions are lifted. County Board staff will work remotely and are contactable by email or via the office phone as normal . The office phone (0214963311) has been diverted to a staff member’s phone and will be answered during office hours.

We can also confirm that SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh has been made available to the HSE, who are considering possible uses for the stadium and we hereby wish to acknowledge the efforts that our club units have already undertaken in assisting local health services and in assisting vulnerable people in our communities at this difficult time.

The County Board meeting scheduled for April 7th has been cancelled. The Executive and CCC will continue to meet regularly via video-conference and will provide a report to clubs by email after all meetings.

Once again, we urge all our members to adhere to directives from the GAA, the HSE and the Department of Health during the current pandemic.

IMPORTANT: Training restrictions

The GAA’s Medical, Scientific and Welfare Committee, the Gaelic Player’s Association and the Gaelic Athletic Medical Association (the representative body for Team Doctors) wish to stress the crucial importance of all players and team personnel adhering strictly to HSE guidelines in relation to social distancing and other aspects of the current Covid 19 pandemic.
In practical terms, this means the following:
  •  Players should not congregate, even in small numbers, for training sessions.
  • Indoor shared Gym facilities are to be avoided, as such environments pose considerable limitations on a users ability to adhere to both ‘Social Distancing’ and contact transmission guidelines advised by the HSE.
Team managers, backroom personnel and players at all levels have not only a duty of care to each other but also to the wider community around them at this time.
It is expected therefore that County and Club teams across the country will adhere to both the letter and spirit of what has been asked of them at this challenging time.
Le meas,
Dick Clerkin (Chairman, GAA Medical Sceintific and Welfare Committee)
Paul Flynn (CEO, Gaelic Player’s Association)
Dr Sean Moffatt (Chairman, G.A.M.A)

A message from the Uachtarán and Ard Stiúrthóir

A chairde,
We are all hugely proud of the significant role that the GAA plays in Irish society and the positive impact made at Club, school and County level through our promotion of our native games. However, with that role comes responsibility and never has this been more evident than in recent days, and the decision taken to suspend all GAA activity, matches and training at Club, school and County level across all grades and codes until March 29 inclusive.

Here, Uachtarán CLG John Horan and Ard Stiúrthóir Tom Ryan spell out the GAA’s position and our request to all of our members to do the right thing and to play our part.

Joint Media Release from the GAA, An Cumann Camógaíochta and the LGFA Covid-19 response

In light of this morning’s Government announcement, the GAA, An Cumann Camógaíochta and the Ladies Gaelic Football Association have decided to suspend all activity at club, inter-county and educational levels until March 29 (inclusive) from midnight.

This is to include all games, training and team gatherings at all ages and all grades.

We will continue to liaise with Government officials and review the situation between now and the end of the month, assessing the impact of these measures on our competitions.

In the meantime, the Association is encouraging all members to continue to follow the guidelines which have been provided by the health authorities.
