Cork GAA Referee Committee: Supporting Our Officials

The Cork GAA Referee Committee is committed to supporting, developing, and equipping our referees to excel in their roles.
Established at the July 2023 County Board meeting, the committee brings together a talented team focused on recruitment, mentoring, retention, and overall referee development.
Their work ensures referees feel valued while overseeing essential areas such as umpire support, equipment provision, public relations, and addressing the challenges referees face in modern games.

Committee Roles and Responsibilities

• Chairperson: Jim McEvoy (Blarney) – Provides leadership and direction for the committee.
• Rúnai: Eamon Sheedy (Newcestown) – Oversees coordination and administration.

Specialist Roles

• Development: Colm Lyons (Nemo Rangers) – Advances refereeing standards and training initiatives.
• Recruitment: John Ryan (Macroom) – Focuses on attracting new referees.
• Retention: Cormac Dineen (Douglas) – Supports and retains current referees for long-term involvement.
• Umpires: Paddy Corkery (Éire Óg) – Oversees umpire support and development.
• Equipment: Jamie Lane (Dungourney) – Ensures referees have access to high-quality equipment.
• Public Relations: Peter O’Leary (Cloughduv) – Communicates the committee’s initiatives effectively.
• Assistant Advisors: John Geaney (Killshannig) – Provides strategic guidance to the committee.
• Assistant Rúnai / Young Whistlers: Cathal Ó Murchú (Brian Dillons) – Coordinates programs for young referees.
