Double delight for Boherbue at Munster Scór na nÓg  Final

Boherbue emerged big winners at the Munster Scór na nÓg Finals hosted in the Éire Óg GAA Pavilion, Ovens. The Duhallow club collected a double triumph courtesy of their Quiz and Set Dance teams.  Elsewhere Borrisoleigh completing a wonderful day on and off the field on a victory as did fellow Tipperary clubs Newcastle, Portroe and Seán Treacys. A productive outing too for Kerry with success for Glenflesk and Finugue.

The occasion  provided a platform for those with traditional talents to showcase native pastimes to a large attendance.

Cork Clubs receive grants

Cork clubs to benefit from both Central and Munster Council grants to the total sum of €252,011.33.

The breakdown of grants will see Central Council contribute €141,801.90 and Munster Council granting €110,209.43. In total 45 clubs across the county will receive grants towards re-developments within their clubs . Five more clubs will receive grants for sanding of their pitches and a further two clubs will receive grants towards legal costs.

The Munster GAA Council Development Grants for 2019 were presented to clubs at a function in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Monday December 16th. Clubs in Cork received in excess of €263,000 for various areas of property purchase and club and pitch development. Speaking at the presentation Cork GAA Development officer Pat Horgan said “The Munster Council deserve great credit for the strategy and vision regarding the ongoing support for the development of club property”.

Pat continued by saying “ The clubs of this county deserve tremendous credit in the initiative in providing so many magnificent infrastructural amenities for the promotion and playing of Gaelic games in their respective communities. Most important is the number of quality playing fields that have been provided. The highest credit goes to the various club committees who have been undaunted by the costs involved in ensuring that the future of our games in these local areas are ensured. It is important that all amenities are well preserved are fully utilised”.

Safeguarding 2 Course

County board children’s officer, Des Cullinane has organised a Safeguarding 2 Course.

It will take place on January 13th in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh at 7pm.

The event is aimed at newly appointed Club Children’s Officers.

Places are limited, any club or children’s officer wishing to book can do so by emailing Des Cullinane at childrensofficer.cork@gaa.ie

Safeguarding 2

A person appointed to the Club Children’s Officer position in a club must have completed the Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness workshop and should complete the NEW Club Children’s Officer 3 hour Training Course. This course will help the Club Children’s Officer to carry out the function of their role in the club and support the implementation of best practice in the club. Participants will also receive a Club Children’s Officer Action Planning document as part of the training.

Cork Scór na nÓg Buaiteoirí

The best of cultural fare emerged at the Co. Scór na nÓg Finals hosted at the Éire Óg GAA  Pavilion, Ovens with Cork Juvenile GAA and Camogie clubs parading music, song, story telling, novelty act and dancing to an appreciative audience.

 

At the end of the exciting fare, outright honours belonged to Boherbue, Sam Maguires, Carbery Rangers, St. James and Kilshannig. Muireann Vaughan from Kanturk compered the proceedings with the prizes presented by Richard Murphy, Cultural Officer, Cork GAA and Tony McAulliffe, Chairman, Coiste Scór Chorcaí.
