Cork GAA is delighted to welcome Ed Sheeran back to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh in April of next year, enhancing what looks like an exciting year for the stadium. We now look forward to fully engaging with local residents and working closely with Aiken Promotions and relevant stakeholders to ensure that each element of the event runs smoothly and with minimum disruption to nearby communities. Our Community Liaison Officer will immediately begin to engage with the various groups to ensure that everyone is kept fully informed.

It is acknowledged that the date in question lies within the inter-county window, particularly the Munster Hurling and Football championships. We are now working with all relevant parties in this context, to ensure that the best possible outcome is achieved for all stakeholders.

STATEMENT FROM THE BOARD OF PAIRC UI CHAOIMH STADIUM/CORK GAA

The Board of SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh Stadium and Cork GAA note with surprise and extreme disappointment the decision of Cork City Council’s Planning Department in relation to its recent application for changes to the stadium and its environs.

The decision notwithstanding, there remain serious safety issues and infrastructural deficits that have the potential to impede the development of the stadium into the future.

The Board and Cork GAA’s intention was always to enhance the operation of the stadium and to improve its interaction and integration with Marina Park.

We submitted this planning application in good faith following extensive pre-planning consultations with Cork City Council, and had sought to engage positively and constructively in the process.

As applicants, we were expecting a request for further information from the Planning Department, and would have fully engaged with that process as is standard practice in most applications of this size and scale.

No such request was forthcoming.

The outright refusal raises serious and immediate questions about the safety of the existing vehicular access to Pairc UiChaoimh via the pedestrianised Marina.

Cork GAA has grave concerns about this ongoing situation.

The issue of insufficient disabled parking in proximity to the stadium, which was highlighted prominently in the application, remains a critical deficit.

The Board will continue to seek an appropriate resolution to the issues outlined, and will now consider all options.

We will continue to seek to engage with residents groups and all interested parties in a meaningful way as we work to achieve the full potential of the stadium for all the people of Cork.

The Board of Pairc UiChaoimh and Cork GAA will seek an urgent meeting with Cork City Council to discuss the refusal of the planning application.

2021 Co-Op Superstores Cork County Hurling Championships.

The Co-Op Superstores Cork County Hurling Championships will commence on Friday September 10th with a busy weekend of much-anticipated games. Clubs throughout the county are gearing up for the first round of games and the excitement is already in the air. The Championships will include three weekends of group games, with close to thirty games each weekend, followed by the knock-out stages which will culminate in the county finals in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh later this autumn.

Co-Op Superstores is the retail division of Dairygold Co-Operative Society Ltd and has deep roots throughout Cork and local communities, just as our GAA clubs have.

Speaking at the launch of the 2021 Hurling Championships at Co-Op Superstores Midleton earlier this week, Cork GAA Vice-Chairperson Pat Horgan said “Dairygold Co-Op Superstores are engrained in the community just like the GAA, like ourselves they are at the heart of local communities in which they operate, and we are delighted to have them back as title sponsor for 2021”.

Commenting at the launch of the Co-Op Superstores Cork Hurling Championship, Head of Dairygold Agri Business, Liam O’Flaherty said “We are delighted to be partnering once again with Cork GAA on the sponsorship of the club hurling championship. Last year’s championship was a hugely successful competition in what was an uncertain year for sporting events. We believe that it is a great fit between the two organisations as many of our members, suppliers and those who work with us are involved with the GAA. 2021 is sure to be an exciting championship with more spectators being allowed attend the games. We’re excited as much as they are to see how this year’s championships play out and we’re delighted to be back on board for 2021 and wish all the clubs the best of luck”.

This weekend’s action begins Friday night when Blackrock play Erins Own in Pairc Ui Rinn at 7.30pm.
