A Positive Step Forward for Child Safety

✅ A Positive Step Forward for Child Safety

Many thanks to the dedicated Children’s Officers who have already completed the mandatory Vetting Updates webinar – your commitment ensures that our clubs remain safe, welcoming, and compliant with the highest child safeguarding standards.

However, a sizeable number of officers have not yet taken part. This training is mandatory for all Club Children’s Officers and those with vetting admin access on Foireann.

👉 Your last chance to attend is:
📅 Saturday, 6th September
🕚 11:00am

By attending, you will:

  • Stay up to date on the amendments to the vetting process.
  • Be recognised as trained in the role of Validator, as required by the Garda National Vetting Bureau.
  • Ensure your club continues to provide the safest possible environment for every child and young person.

📢 Action Required:
Please share this reminder with your Club Children’s Officer or anyone in your club who needs to complete the webinar.

Together, we can make sure every club is covered and that we continue to lead the way in child safeguarding.

Who needs to be vetted in the GAA?

Garda Vetting through the GAA is a statutory requirement under the National Vetting Bureau (Children & Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012-2016 for the mandatory vetting of persons who wish to undertake certain activities relating to children or vulnerable persons.

In the GAA any person who carries out a role of responsibility such as coaching, managing or training underage teams that contain any player under 18 yrs. of age must be vetted. It also applies to organising underage activities or refereeing underage games.

An individual or unit deemed to breach the requirement may face a non-compliance sanction under our Child Safeguarding Policy.

⚠️ Garda vetting is non-transferable to other organisations and Garda Vetting from other organisations cannot be accepted by the GAA.

How can you be vetted through the GAA?

The GAA Vetting System is now part of our membership system on Foireann.

Step 1: Applicant and Validator complete the Identity Documentation (In-person)

  • Applicant must print and complete the GAA NVB1 Invitation Form and meet their Club Children’s Officer (CCO) in person.
  • Provide completed NVB1 form, photo ID, and proof of address.
  • Your CCO will complete and sign off the Identity Document Validation Form, retaining the NVB1 for six months.
  • Keep a copy/photo of the completed forms.

Proof of identity is required by the Garda National Vetting Bureau, otherwise applications will be rejected.

Step 2: Create an account / Log in to Foireann

Create an account or log in to Foireann, select your Club, and ensure your membership is approved. If you encounter difficulties, visit the Foireann help desk.

Step 3: Gaelic Games Vetting Invitation Form

  • Log in and check that all details (DOB, Eircode, email) are correct.
  • Go to Qualifications and Vetting tab → Apply to be Vetted.
  • Select your Club/Association and the role you are applying for.
  • Upload all validated documents from Step 1.

Step 4: Completing the Garda National Vetting Bureau (NVB) eVetting Process

  • Once your NVB1 is submitted, you’ll receive an email from the NVB to complete your online invitation (expires after 30 days).
  • Provide all required details, including addresses, EU/UK residency history, and answer role-related questions.
  • Your completed eVetting form will be reviewed by the GAA and then forwarded to the NVB.
  • Both you and your CCO will be notified once vetting is complete.

Note: Do not contact the NVB directly — queries should go to evetting@gaa.ie.

Revetting in the GAA

Vetting in the GAA is valid for a three-year period. If you are required to be re-vetted, you must complete Steps 1–4 again.
